thanks for the info. the only thing I am worried about with this machine was the speed. I've seen on other posts that users will put a speed reducer on it. I am optimistic tho because I know that this machine belonged to a man who owned a saddle shop, but has passed away. Maybe it will already be set up for my needs. I have never sewn with a mahcine or turned on a sewing machine in my life, so glad to know there is a good contact at Toledo, and a friendly community who is willing to help on this website. James

I am buying a Singer 111W155 to sew things like bible covers. Will basically sew two 5-6oz pieces of leather together. I have never owned a sewing machine and I don't even know where to get started with this. Where would I go online to buy leather sewing needles for this machine, and what size would I get?

do you apply the wyosheen liberally or lightly?

I bought some Clear Lac and was not pleased. after applying it to the leather and letting it dry overnight....there were awful streaks in the leather after I applied antique. However, I ordered some Wyosheen from Sheridan Outfitters and it works like a charm, just like neat lac. I tried the clear lac again on some scrap leather, and it also left streaks after antiquing. Now I do not know what to do with this can of clear lac. I have also used Leather Sheen spray as a resist and it works ok too.

good advice. I guess where I am getting confused is that if I neat lac the entire project that the leather will not change color where it is not tooled and stay a very light veg tanned color. can you explain the process in which you did that guitar pick guard? it may help me understand.

I have my neat lac and have been doing a lot of sheridan carving. I have been using a tiny paint brush to paint the flowers so when i apply the paste antique it only changes the color of the background. however, after reading some posts it appears that the neat lac should be rubbed into the whole piece. do you rub it into the pieces of leather that are not carved too? I mainly do bible covers and guitar straps and wonder if the whole piece of leather should be neat lac'd. also it seams when its applied that it blocks (resists) the antique color, so if you apply neat lac to the whole piece do you just have to keep rubbing and rubbing in the antique to get some color?
