Great behind the scenes look at the craftsmen at Hermes.
hey thanks for the heads up. VERY cool. The documentary was removed from that site but I found part one here http://www.refinery29.com/is-this-herm-s-doc-the-new-last-emperor-or-september-issue

I thought some folks might have video links to share of their work. It would be fun to see them. I have included mine I made recently.

I have shops on both. I've made around 50 sales on Etsy and none on Artfire.
I have had about 10 on Etsy and 2 on Artfire.

I am on Etsy, and get pretty good traffc from it. I am not on Artfire. How do the sales and traffic compare?
I haven't been on Artfire as long but I am finding that it is a good place to fiddle around with pictures, keywords and titles. You can post them multiple times and there is no charge since the cost for your shop is $10/month. The shop stats are not as specific as Etsy's but it is easier for people to buy because they don't have to create an account. They just hit the add button and put in their info. Traffic on Artfire for me is more because I just learned about relevancy and SEO stuff and put it into practice there before I did at Etsy. However, sales are nil right now at both places.

Hi all,
I was just wondering if there are very many people who have shops on Etsy or Artfire?
Best,

Thought you might be interested in this site. It has several videos. The one on shoe making was interesting.

Do you guys think 1.5-2 oz goat skin split would work or would pigskin be better? I am having trouble picturing what you mean SouthTexas. I am not familiar with what a backstrip or welt do.

Ditto! Thanks to all the veterans!

I look remarkable like him. Except I'm bald, my beard is grey, I'm 30 years older than him and a wee bit heavier. And he's cute, while I'm not. Otherwise, we could be twins.
hahahahaa
Thanks for all the info, folks!

I am in awe

Yea I called them and spoke with a young lady who said I would have to wait til Monday because the office wasn't in today. Not such a big deal I ended up having enough leather for the project I wanted to start.

Anyone know how long it takes for them to get back to you once you submit the application?
-
I guess you could email them a copy of your tax number to show that you are a business.
Thank you dirtclod. I finally found it. Right under my nose of course

I got my tax ID number the other day and am raring to use it. I was going to order from Springfield Leather and it said they do wholesale but I can't figure out how to do it. It is probably something obvious I am overlooking but it read to me like I didnt have to pay a fee to get wholesale prices. I don't see anywhere in my account or checkout to put in my tax id number sooo....
Never mind I found it

I guess I should've given the link when I searched it: http://www.trademark...r-85111056.html
search terms " Live Long and Prosper Trademark" There's lots more articles than just that one, it just happens to be the one I picked.
Thank you twinOaks :D I will read up on it.

The current trademark for "Live Long and Prosper" is owned by CBS Studios, Inc., issued 8-19-2010. So, you would be in technical violation of the trademark if you make and sell the image.
*Note: I'm not a lawyer.* We had a long discussion about copyright infringement here on this forum, and IIRC, you can make and use anything for personal use, but can not sell those items without violating the copyright. I think the same would apply to a trademark, but if you need authoritative advice, ask a lawyer. You could also write to CBS Studios, Inc. and ask permission to use the logo (good luck with that).
Thank you TwinOaks for finding that. I did try a google search and didn't have any luck. Is there a website that is a good one for that sort of thing?

Hi all,
I have a specific piece of leatherwork I am working on and would like your input. I am a Star Trek fan and would like to sell this piece I am making but I don't want to do something wrong either. It is a picture of a hand with the phrase "Live long and prosper" Spock. I drew the hand myself but am just not sure about the infringement issues. Thanks for any light you can shine on the subject
