  1. Jeanette, how are you applying the dye to the leather? I use an airbrush, and id start with a half full body of reducer, and add the ox blood to it until i get the right color.
  2. ASM they work just like an Milt sparks axiom, its just my own version of it.
  3. Id like to see a picture of the avenger with the gun in the holster, so i can give you some feedback on something that may help you get your pattern a little tighter. you can always shoot me an email as its easier for me to check and reply to and input pictures. Saddle stitch is the way to go for hand stitching. And i agree with the other poster about adjusting your pattern on the pancake, also rounding your corner a little more, make them flow. There is a time nad place for sharp edges, i love putting sharp edges on my holsters but its only warrented in certain areas, you can see some examples on some of my work.
  4. Ive made a few pink holster, i use Fiebings Oxblood, mixed with Fiebings reducer thinner whatever. Holster looks good though, i like it.
  5. Thanks for the compliments guys. Olds cool - yah that first one came out nice, took me a while to design it, had to play around with it a lot, the customer wanted something aggressive and a bit on the dark side (not refering to color) needless to say i nailed it and he loves it. pricey holster though $180 c2369zulu - Practice makes perfect, my holster take me between 4-6 hours to make, sometimes a little more depending on the design, i still hand stitch most of my holsters even though i have a Toro 3000. As ive always said, if anyone would like to know any thing about how i constructed my holsters or any detail work, im more then willing to share my knowledge, all you have to do is ask. very late reply i know... just finished logging 68 hours this week.
  6. Have not posted in a while, life just gets to busy to keep up with everything we want to do in life. 60 hours a week for my fulltime job, and then doing this part time really takes it out of me! Enjoy.
  7. Cant figure out what is going on, machine was running fine, now every other stitch or almost every other stitch you can see the top thread on the bottom. Hope that makes sense. I dont think it can be a tension issue, but i dont know for sure. the springy eyelet thing seems to make a loud click sound, not sure if its normal or if its part of the problem, once something goes wrong every little noise seems out of the ordinary and its hard to remember if it made that sound before haha.
  8. Looking good sir! always clean work from you. You should have made the set pink to match the gun!! like one i made a long time ago!
  9. How come you cant make on of your own? Also, are you talking fullsize xd9, compact? I can make you one, what are you wanting to pay for one?
  10. Ok, so here is a link to my hidden snap tutorial, i didnt feel like copy and pasting all the photo and then all the descriptions for each photo, here is a link to my tutorial on how i do my hidden snaps. Hidden Snap Tutorial Here is a pic of a holster I did with the hidden snaps, To show you the final product with the loop all stitched.
  11. Yah its just a standard tandy clip, nothing fancy. gets the job done. Im wondering if i should just post a link to the tutorial here, or make another post specifically for it to make it easier to find and not potential clutter this thread up with discussion reguarding it.
  12. Not bad sir, keep working at it. My only thing with this is... that short of a gun it is unecessary to make a belt slide style for it.. your 90 percet to a pancake.. might as well just cover the rest of the gun up.
  13. Thanks for all the compliments guys, always appreciated. Shooter - Yep hidden snaps, flat as can be, i have a tutorial for how i did it if anyone is interested. Chief - No real method to my madness there, I dont like dip dying, and ive found that my customer dont really care what the inside looks like, i prefer it to be natural, no particular reason other then look i guess, shows off my ability to dye my edges and make them clean and straight, where with black or all the same color you can never have to worry about learning that skill. Dfingers - i hear yah, colors and finish are a headache for sure but something that can make or break your work in my opinion.
  14. Ok, havnt had time to post in a while been so busy with things, but taking a minute to post before i have to go cook some dinner for the lady!!! Here is a Pocket holster for a Kahr CM9 Saddle tan Horsehide, came out real nice. Next is something new to me, it was requested by a customer, gave me a laundry list of what he wanted for the holster, rounded on the side that has the clip, clip/tuckable, Reverse cant to bring the handle of the revolver really close to the waist line, This is an AIWB for a Jframe. Next is an Avenger style holster with black elephant on the reinforcement piece, dont for a HK PSP Next is a full horse hide IWB for a 5" inch 1911, Natural, with Natural thread. Next is a IWB with Black Caimen Alligator trim for a Ruger SR9c Next is an IWB done in Saddle tan with black airbrush accent around the edges for a Springfield Micro Compact Operator. Lastly is an IWB for myself, had a little free time and some herman oak that had some blems on the top grain, so decided to do Rough side out on the body, and Cognac Elephant trim on the throat and loops. Thanks for looking! enjoy
  15. So, I got a Toro 3000 from Steve at leathermachine co. Also got the holster plate with it, the machine didnt come setup with the holster plate on it, it came setup for a plate that sits lower. So.. basically a couple issues, the leather seems like its getting smooshed way to much and is causing a lot of trama on the backside, i know there is supposed to be some but not this much. Its also causing issues on the top side with the inner pressor foor making marks on the leather. Ive tried adjusting both presser feet adjustments and think i got i to an ok setting, im not exactally sure.. Now the next issue is the stitches, top stitches look great, but the bottom stitch has the stop stitch showing in some spots or the bobbing thread just looks slightly loose or not pulled tight to the leather. Another thing that is occuring that i can not figure out is that the needle at top dead center and upon returning to the downstroke is being moved from what appears to be the tension of the thread pulling it to one side then it goes back just before it goes though the inner presser foot hole..... It did not used to do this.. i have played with the top tension to where i have made it significantly looser and its still doing this. Spent about 4 hours messing with it tonight and im totally frustrated. Im posting this in here because im hoping some of you use the holster plate and had to make adjustments when you put it on there due to how much higher it sits off the cylinder arm then the other plates. I think the only thing i havnt messed with is the bobbin tension.....

PM me please. Thanks
  17. What are you all using for the metal support that i always see on thumb breaks. that little metal strip plate. Or if there are any other methods im open to ideas.
  18. Always draw a new pattern for different guns, for a couple reasons... A. there are always significant differences between different guns, some may not be obvious. B. when your trying to produce a quality product you want it to look as nice as possible so why not do it the right way the first time? C. This gives you practice with making patterns and since your still a novice it will only help you to create more and more patterns getting better with each one you create.
  19. I use the walmart weldwood contact cement, sometimes it takes good to the horsehide sometimes it does, i lay it on a little heavier then i do with cow buy not much, i for sure do not let it stand for 20 minutes, maybe 5 minutes if that... till most of it starts to get that dryed look and there is still a little glaze in some areas... then once i put the two pieces together i will make sure i press wodn all the edges and all over the middle, and check it after a few minutes to make sure there are no spots coming up. Seems to work great for me. It can be tricky though. Horsehide pocket holster, i believe this was only one layer of glue used.
  20. Golinger is going to KILL me for posting this on here but in the end it might get them more business.. .soo here goes... Call up Golinger and ask them for a sample of the mossed back leather... they will send you a small piece, mine is on the way right now. Then you dont have to wonder anymore you can see for yourself in person!!!
  21. If he is not willing to lend you the gun, then what good does it do you to have a pattern? you will not be able to wet form it anyways... And if the response is that he will bring the gun over to let you wet mold it but cant keep it then have him bring it over to make an outline to make the pattern..
  22. Wow. that is terrible! He will be missed. Condolences to the family!
