  1. The knife was made by SGT Tracy Larock of Lufkin Texas. The blade is 1095/15N20 demascus we made in my shop. I say we - I arc welded the ends and a handle on it. He use my power hammer. I did some hammering but not as much as Tracy! During the process, he backed over a guy line to a light pole. That is why we call this billet of demascus our $800 billet. LOL. The guard is nickle silver that he made from bar stock. I thin the handle is Az Ironwood. I make knives but Tracy is far more advanced in quality that I am. He does some of his work with a KMG. But when it comes to finishing, he works by hand. I am looking foward to the day I get to see him pass his ABS test. I hope to follow in his foot steps one day. Meanwhile, I am his knife case maker.
  2. It is reading post like this one that gets me thinking my process for making knife cases may need adjusting for better results. When making a case: 1) make pattern 2) cut pieces 3) dry fit pieces to close enough 4) glue up 5) sand edges 6) grove and stitch 7) tool 8) dye. Now if you notice there is nothing on edges here and the tooling is out of place for most case makers. You guys are going to make me refine the process again. I think I will be putting the dye on between steps 3 and 4 with an added step at the very end for edging. I have learned so much from the chatter in these forums! Keep sharing the magic, please......   3. I have a habit of getting contact cement on place it should not be. I use actone to remove it with success. Wonder if that would work on your glue spot? I have some of that stuff. Brand new bottle and I can not find it. I know it is here somewhere. Oh well, I keep using the contact cement....
  4. 30 years of I/T experance and you would thing I would have since enought to attach the file. My mind thinks faster that my hands can type.... and I type at 121 wpm....
  5. Sorry about the HUGE size photo. I forget about the fact I have to change the format size. This is a 4 by 6 photo which will be a lot more friendly!
  6. Recon it is the speed of the burnishing tool? Not necessary the amount of pressure but the speed of the tool could build up heat and cause a searing action. I am sure he is using some kind of wax. I would reason it would heat up and brown.... But keep in mind, I dont really know here. I am new to the edgeing process.....
  7. Wow... I went to a class for basic tooling two weeks ago. I need to find some floral patters with common items in them to work on. From there I could work on the craft and lead into the design of my own stuff. I dont have a real big need to floral but it would be nice for gun holsters and such..... Keep working on it. Chris at Tandy say the second design would 100% better than the first, and the third 100% better than the 2nd...etc. I have done three pieces so far and they are getting better....
  8. I like the finish on your holsters. I made my first this past week. Learned that I need to point the barrel a bit back toward the butt and not down the leg to keep the butt of the gun from imprenting. I have not learned the process of "slicking" the edge of my leather work ..... yet.
  9. I must say you did a great job in my opnion! I am not expert leather worker but you don't have to be to notice something that looks good!
  10. I have been wondering how people get such a clean line on the borders. My stuff has a bit more of the "hand made" look that I like sometimes. I am going to use this piece of advice!
  11. The knife case in this photo is one I made. I have been making simple knife cases for about 3 years now. I have invested in a Tippman "Boss" to do the stitching with. My hands can not take all that hand stitching. I am open for comments. Case is made from 4-5 oz veg tanned sholder. Color is British Tan. Sealed with Eco-Flo Super Shine. Case was made were the smoth side is exposed on front and back. Can't believe I did not learn to make cases that way to start with..... I am looking for an advanced case making book of some type. I would appreciate sugestions.
  12. well now I feel inspired! forget the edging. dont stitch the tops of each card holder side. add a flap down the side under one of the flaps with holes in it to hold the extra keys to the trucks and car! I lock my keys in the truck a lot.......... I aint into purty sew this is right up may way!   13. Well if he aint, I am..... garyantley@yahoo.com I am an unemployeed I/T, Telecom, PC Support Tech. The three jobs that dont pay squat in my area any more. I am making knives and leather cases trying to fill in the low spots between bills. Part time work looks to be my hope with something on the side - knives and leather....
