  1. I have a quesiton, is that two pieces of leather sewn at the seam or is it an overlay with one being sewn over the other? Thank you
  2. Very nice work. I am always amazed at the creativity of the folks on this site.
  3. Thanks fellas. I have some 8/9 oz. left over but was saving it for a Revolver Project, might be time to visit Tandy and dig through their inventory....lol, hopefully I will get lucky and find a nice side, we will see.
  4. Folks I know I have seen the info on here before but what weight of leather do you prefer to use on an avenger Style holster? I have made them using 8-9 oz. and the seem to be bulky, I have some 4-5 oz. right now that I was thinking of using but I am not sure how it would hold up. This is for a full size 1911. Thank you
  5. As always I am inspired by your work. I really like the two tone look and hopefully when funds are more plentiful I can purchase an air brush and give it a go.
  6. I like them, they look a lot better than my first attempts. From one newbie to another, the gun in the bottom holster may ride to high for comfort, my first design had the gun riding high and while it was functional it was not comfortable.
  7. That is a nice holster, I like the shape, simple but functional.
  8. That is one heck of a welt Katsass, I just got to ask how in the world did you sew something that thick, never mind I don't want to know...lol. I was looking at one my patterns and the thought struck me that perhaps I was over complicating the whole process, trying to be too technical, hence the reason for the question. I had thought that is the gun was 1.18 at the widest point then I could just use 1 inch as my starting point and work from there. Thanks again for the advice.
  9. Thanks folks. I am not too sure I want to wait weeks for an order to ship. I am not an impatient person but that seems like a long time to process an order.
  10. I studied quite a few topics before I delved into making my own holsters and in every case the author wrote to take the width of the gun and dive it in half, then add the thickness of the leather. So far my holsters have come out okay, but my question in this, if you have a semi auto pistol where do you take the measurement from, I have a Springfield XD and at the widest points it measures 1.18", that is the measurement I used. You can also find a measurement of 1.09", would you use that? What about the slide release, it makes the measurement of 1.18 even wider. I want to hear some of the opinions of the more seasoned among us. Thank you
  11. All of the holsters I have made up to this point have been made from Tandy Leather. I have heard and read that W&C is some of the best but I have a question, what is meant in their pricing section by Standard, Utility and Special? and which one do you use to make holsters? Thank you
  12. I do not think you are being a SA at all. I suspect if I had been doing it that long I would have that "feel" as well. This reminds me of my mom and her cooking, she very rarely ever measures anything and most if not all of the time her dishes come out great, she has that feel from cooking for so many years.
  13. Thanks katsass, I followed your advice before about using light coats of mop-n-glo and kiwi and my finished improved in appearance, guess I got a little carried away this time. Hopefully i can fix this uh oh and learn from it, seems I learn something new every time I build a holster. On a side note I am curious as to how you know where to put your glue since you have vineagrooned? I use a sharpie to mark the holster pattern on the back side so I know where to glue. Thanks again.
  14. I have a problem and I am hoping someone has run into this before. I started a new OWB pancake holster using 8/9 oz. leather. below are the steps I took to complete. 1.) Cut pattern, glued and stitched 2.) oiled with EVOO, (probably should not have done this before I vineagrooned) 3.) dipped in vineagroon 4.) lightly oiled again 5.) Wet formed holster 6.) applied two light coats of 50/50 mop-n-glo I allowed at least a day in between the steps to allow for sufficient drying. After the sixth step I noticed there was a white film on the holster. I can rub it off but am curious as to what happened. In previous projects I have stitched the holster, vineagrooned and then oiled. I have read that some folks have had problems with the mop-n-glo and vineagroon and others have not. any and all help is greatly appreciated.
  15. Beautiful sheaths and I really like the color combos.
  16. Thanks fellas for the suggestions and pictures. I must have thrown my first attempt in the garbage or recycled it for something else, bummer. I am currently working on another design based on all of the great feedback for you. I would like some day to make a wooden mold and try one that way but for now a simple one is challenge enough...lol. Thanks again for all of the help.
  17. Would I be right in thinking that not only does the top need to angle so does the sides as well as the belt loops. I had thought of stitching the sides along the magazine and the molding the holster and when it was dry I could finish my stitching. Once again I appreciate everyone's help. This old country boy could not get his head wrapped around this.
  18. Thanks Adam, that little picture alone is worth a thousand words. Now if I can just find that old pouch I can get some measurements.
