  1. I looked around last night for the mag pouch and could no find it, don't know what I did with it. I am not sure if i understand about making the stitch lines crooked. When I insert the mag into the pouch to be molded the top of the pouch along with the top of the belt slots all tilt inwards while the bottom of the pouch and the bottom of the belt slots remains in place. I will look again for the pouch and take a picture, if I can't find it I am going to try a different design. Thanks for the help fellas.
  2. I tried making my first mag pouch the other day and I ran into a problem. I laid out my pattern, BTW this for a Springfield XD45 Magazine which is 1 inch thick so I allowed a half inch on either side for my stitch line, the problem arose when I tried to mold it. The stitch lines on the top of the pouch started drawing inwards and the width at the top became smaller than the width at the bottom. At first I thought perhaps the stitch lines were to close but a 1/2 inch should have been plenty. Any ideas as to what I did wrong.
  3. Thanks again from a newbie. I have not made many holsters that do not ride high so I really do not have anything to compare it to. What I did do when I started trying to design a holster was to study a Desantis and it too appeared to ride high. Now that I have made a few I kind of like how it rides. I will say that this one rides about a inch lower than some of the others so you know they were high riding. I moved the leather around the trigger guard in by 1/16 of an inch. I think I am going to give the pattern a go with some scrap leather and see how it turns out, wish me luck and thank you again for the advie and opinions, they are most appreciated.
  4. Thanks for the compliment and suggestions. I wonder if it would be ;possible to take the thickness of the trigger guard and use that to adjust the stitch line. All of the holsters I have made thus far I have used the width of the slide to adjust the stitch pattern, I guess I have been lucky thus far. I will tweak the pattern and see what I can come up with.
  5. I am in the process of sketching up a new design and I wanted to get some input from the more seasoned on this website. The holster will be made from 8/9 oz. leather and it will carry a Springfield XD Service model. I appreciate anyone taking the time to give me your thoughts on this.
  6. That is nice. I like the carrying case for the revolver, gives me some good ideas.
  7. I apologize I should have been more clear. The top of the gun (slide) is the part that angles outward. I tried changing the tightness of my belt last night and that helped a great deal. After studying the holster some more and looking at other folks work some more I realize it may very well be the front slot. I am going to alter my pattern and give it another go. Thanks for all of the help.
  8. Thanks Dwight. Right now I have a 15 degree cant and I can easily change that to 20 degree. Someone suggested in another thread, it might have been you, to try 4/5 oz. leather and once I get some more funds i may do just that.
  9. Here are two images of one of the holsters. I lined the gun up so the back slot would be inline with the center of the gun.
  10. I have made only two or three Avenger Style holsters using 8/9 oz. leather. All of them ride pretty nice but I have noticed that the gun angles away from the body. Is this just the inherit nature of the design or would thinner leather help to draw the holster back in? Any and all suggestions are welcomed
  11. Nice, I want to make one for a XD45, I just need to sit down and work out the pattern
  12. you know I did not even notice that, thanks for pointing it out. and thank to all of you for the compliments and suggestions. Now I just need some more leather and some more time....lol.
  13. Dwight, I used 8-9 ounce for the entire holster, it was all I had at the time. I may try another one using some thinner leather. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks
  14. Here are my attempts at making a defender style holster. It was fun and challenging and I can't wait to do another one.
  15. The beauty of having a good mentor means not having to endure a lot of the same mistakes. Nice work
  16. Thanks fellas for the insight, it is most appreciated. I like the idea of straight slots as I think they look cleaner. As for the angle of the gun I myself prefer a 15-20 degree cant but then I carry my gun at the 3 o'clock position. I did not realize I had made the slots bigger until gicts pointed it out, thanks. I will tweak the design but first I think I will study some other holster makers to see how they do it and what works for them. Thanks again
  17. dickf, Thank you for the suggestions and critique. I have tweaked the design. The gun rides lower and I have brought the belt loops in a bit.
  18. Not really a new design as I am sure someone thought of it somewhere. I would like to get your opinions on the concept. Thank you
  19. Only one word comes to mind, WOW !!!, I love the design and the finish.
  20. That is pretty cool looking and I like the design a lot.
  21. Great looking rig and unique in that it is for a 1911.
  22. I have thought about this since I started making holsters. I have only two or three real pistols to work from. My thought, and I am not a business owner, what if you could add a small surcharge to all new holster orders until the investment for that particular blue gun was paid? You of course would have to make the initial investment and there are no guarantees that you would recoup the money, just a thought.
