  3. Hey all looking for your thoughts on building a set of Santa Ynez reins out of leather I know they won't have the body and life of a rawhide set but I am wondering if there would be too many other drawbacks any help would be appreciated Bryce
  4. Anymore the mane hair only gets broke out when I leave the feedlot to work the outside cattle... Can't abandon it altogether lol
  5. I have an 8strand square one with the guts still in it on my snaffle rig it has a nice weight and lots of life.... Nothing like a good mane hair rope but im not sure mane hair would do well here at the feedlot
  6. I use a can of saddle soap a bar of ivory soap half a bar of paraffin wax and 2 or so cups of water works pretty well and kind of seals it and makes it shiny

    Belting Core?

    I know many of you on here have used sewing machine belting for cores on reins, my question is have any of you used it for a bosal core or what would be you're thoughts on that the braid over it would be 12 strand rawhide. Any thoughts out advice Is appreciated Bryce
  9. ive been lucky so far had good results on all but one hide, this stuff was all done with a hide off of an old herford cow and de haired with the dry ash method.

  14. I am looking for opionions on trees from precision saddle tree co, this is going to be my first saddle from the ground up although. I do have experience with repairs. Im going to build on a wade tree and this saddle will be uesd for ranch work and doctoring. .. any advice is appreciated. Bryce

    i dry em out totally then put em my humidifier overnigtht to get them to the right temper to braid

    kassidy, ive been using rit, mixing 1 capful to about 2 cups water , letting the strings sit in it overnight take em out lettin em dry retempering them and braiding, havent had much trouble with the coming out, hope this helps Bryce
  17. for me the hardest part was keeping everything straight but other than that they were pretty easy
  18. this pair goes from 8 square split to 2 4 strands, seems to have a nice feel

  22. thats the knot im shootin for is tyin it with one strand pushed thru a small awl hole, will the knot on p 155 work for that
  23. i think the one on 155 may be the one i want, i want to make some belting reins and tie my ring knots/ foundations, by putting an awl hole through the belting passing the string through then tying my ring knot, i suppose could use 2 strings/ holes but im afraid it would weaken the rein too much
  24. looking for instructions on how to tie a 2 strand spanish ring, have not found it in my bruce grand book am i not looking hard enough or do i need to look elsewhere?
