Hey all looking for your thoughts on building a set of Santa Ynez reins out of leather I know they won't have the body and life of a rawhide set but I am wondering if there would be too many other drawbacks any help would be appreciated Bryce

I have an 8strand square one with the guts still in it on my snaffle rig it has a nice weight and lots of life.... Nothing like a good mane hair rope but im not sure mane hair would do well here at the feedlot

I use a can of saddle soap a bar of ivory soap half a bar of paraffin wax and 2 or so cups of water works pretty well and kind of seals it and makes it shiny

thank you so much leatherpounder ive got some belting coming and thats just the knot i need
-
thats the knot im shootin for is tyin it with one strand pushed thru a small awl hole, will the knot on p 155 work for that
-
i think the one on 155 may be the one i want, i want to make some belting reins and tie my ring knots/ foundations, by putting an awl hole through the belting passing the string through then tying my ring knot, i suppose could use 2 strings/ holes but im afraid it would weaken the rein too much

looking for instructions on how to tie a 2 strand spanish ring, have not found it in my bruce grand book am i not looking hard enough or do i need to look elsewhere?
