I have two questions for you guys and gals. 1. I have been told not to buy Tandy rawhide lacing, which I did before I saw the response. Yes, it is way not consistent. Where should I buy it from? 2. Can you run it through a splitter to even it out. Thank you.

I have a customer that I am building a portfolio for. He has asked me about the possibility of lacing the edges with rawhide. I have never done a lot of lacing much less lacing with rawhide. My questions are: (I apologize before hand if they are stupid questions!!) 1. Can this be done? 2. how do you protect the leather as your lacing with wet rawhide? 3. I have always heard that rawhide shrinks as it dries, do you need to lace it a little looser with that in mind to keep from messing up the portfolio. 4. Is there a calf or kangaroo lace that mimics the color of rawhide? Thank you so much.

Ok this might be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyways. I started putting a coat of oil on my projects and sticking them in the sun for a while. I love the color I get. Now that winter has set in is there any tricks to get that same color. Thanks

This is my first attempt at a bag. It was the bag kit from Tandy. I know there was a lot of negitive comments about this bag and all of them were mostly justified. The main reason I went ahead and bought it was to use it to make a set of patterns and to better understand the construction process. As you can tell from the picture I modified the bag a little to get the look I was wanting. I know it has some flaws, but thats why its for me. I now know how to better put one together and have discovered some things I can change to improve on the next one. I hope you enjoy!

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but its Thursday so I am going to ask it anyways. I do some of my layout and desin on the computer. I try to print it for the customer so they have an idea of what I am going to do. On some of my items I use the alphabet stamps from Tandy. What I would like to know is what is the name of that font. I cant seem to find it and would like my sample sheet to more clearly reflect the font Im going to use. Any ideas?

Alright guys I'm bringing you another question. Im fixin' to make a set of spur straps for a guy. Im going to put his brand on them. His brand contains the letter "B". I realize that I cannot do the mirror image of his brand, so my question is if I put it on both straps facing the same way will it look ok or do I need to just tool it on one of them. Hope my question is clear as mud. Thanks

Ok here is the question. On some of my project I put a 1/4" bead around my stamping. I like to dye it a little darker than my antique, just cause I like the way it looks. My problem is getting a nice even bead. I usually use Feibrings Spirit Dye. I have tried Tandy's Professional series (which they said would work perfect) but didnt. Does anybody have any trick they would be willing to share.

I'm still working toward getting a Barry King basket stamp, but not there yet. What I'm wondering is there a differance between the ones you can buy at Tandy versus the ones you buy at SLC?

I have a custom portfolio that I am fix in to do and it has a logo on it. The logo has a bunch of 1/4"x1/4" squares (windows). What tool or stamp could I use instead of cutting all them. I know there has to be something out there somebody has used before.

Here is the front and back of another portfolio that I did for a coworker. Each one keeps getting better, but I seem to learn something new with each one.

This is the first oak leaf that I attempted. Im tired of just doing basketstamps, so I needed to branch out.

I have been using the push beader that I got from Barry King. I have got it down pretty well, BUT I'm having troubles with square corners. Can someone tell me the best way to work corners. Thanks in advance-

Cleaning And Minor Repairs Of Saddles
srbonner replied to srbonner's topic in General Saddlery Discussion
Thanks for all ya'lls advice it helps A LOT! @ CWR - You are right. The saddles do belong to some day cowboys and feedlot guys. I mostly just wanted to do it to help me learn about saddle construction and to get in good with them for down the road when they need something. Trust me I think I could find plenty to do in my shop other than scrub on a saddle (thats why all mine need some attention) but sometimes you gotta do whatever to get them in and see what kind of work you do. -
I have got some guys in town that keep hitting me up to work on their saddles and give a good cleaning and oiling. I kind of thinking that it would give me a good chance to learn some about saddle construction and get me on their good side and hopefully they woould want some of the other stuff I make. They are gonna want a quick turn around on their saddles which I donr have a problem with. The only question I have is what to charge for a good cleaning and minor repairs. Theses guys dont have much monet but what they have they will spend on their horses and saddles. Any advice yall could offer of pricing would sure be appreciated. Thanks>
