Hey guys - im looking at make a strop - leather glued to a wooden board. I've researched here and in other places and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer as to which side of the leather should be facing up (ie the side that you will use). Any definitive opinions out there ? I plan to use jeweler's rouge on the strop. as always - appreciate any help. cheers

Hey Teresa. I've bought a lot of my stuff from EBayer "stecksstore". I have to agree with Ron. Birdsalls are helpful (and for me at least are convenient) but frustratingly its almost always cheaper to have it shipped from the US. FWIW the guy who runs its, Bruce, has always done right by me. Mate, silly question but is the handle on the stamp removable ? If it is, stick the stamp and the cased leather in a vice, line 'em up and squeeze. I had a stamp sans handle made up by Jeff at grey ghost and find this method works well for me at least.

Hey leather workers - I like lining the inside of my projects with fabric. So far i have been dressing the edges with clear nail polish. It works ok but still the fabric ends up fraying after a bit of use. 1) what do you guys/gals use to treat the edges of fabric to keep the threads from fraying? 2) Edging Kote - do I need this or is it a scam dreamed up by Madison Avenue type shiny pants marketers ? 3) when burnishing edges - i understand that I need to apply a bit of "swift" to the burnishing motion, but how much weight do I need to apply ? I mean do I have to press down hard with all my weight (sadly im 92 kgs !) or is it a gentle pressure but a rapid movement ? many thanks for any help that you guys/gals can provide a leather newbie.

for what its worth I would follow both suggestions. The wrapping helps with "width" shrinkage.

Ok - so i finally got some satisfaction - (apologies to Mick Jagger). I sent an email to Hardwareelf.com inquiring about the the rivets and some other Ohio Travel Bag Items. I had to use the OTB catelogue codes as not all of the products had a description - just an item number. Sharon from hardwareelf customer service emailed me back with a quote number - I typed it in and there were all the items i was looking for ! I couldnt be happier with their service and can happily recommend them if you're looking for hard to find parts. anyway, just wanted to share in case its helpful to others cheers

Hi Art. I was happy to buy $20 worth (I have no idea how many that would work out to). I would also need the settler to go with it (Item:T-125). I included a couple of other items as I hoped it would bulk up the order and not be so much of pain to them (Ohio Travel Bag). I looked at Item:P-2379 - Qty: 4 (panic snaps); Item:T-151 (oblong punch - 1/4") Qty: 1 and Item:T-1463 - Qty: 1 (thread cutters). I have just noticed now in the forums it mentions that to open an account you need to spend $75 on the first order. If that's the case then I'm sure i can find some other items to fill in the order. Only trouble is their website doesn't include prices so I'd just be guessing. Anyway at this point I kind of feel that I'm being whingy going on about these rivets so I promise not to go on about them anymore ! Cheers

Ok. I still need help on this. After submitting a request for these hooks (plus several other items), I received an email from Paul Gallin (president of Ohio bag) saying that they were wholesale distributors and he directed me to their sister company Hardware Elf. Fair enough and it was kind that he responded. Unfortunately Hardware Elf doesnt carry these hooks (nor most of the other items I was after). So once again I'm hoping that someone has seen these hooks before and can recomend a supplier. Thanks
