  1. Starting to see your work regularly in Heavy Duty and Ozbiker. It's no wonder. Your seats rock.
  2. If there was an Olympic event for BAD burnishing I'd take gold, silver and bronze !

I hope someday you don't win those metals.

  3. Chris. I love the burnishers I have bought from u. But I have to say the thing that really makes u a top bloke in my opinion is that u happily recommended another guys burnishers to me, when u (initially) stopped. Putting family first just makes u an A grade champ. All the best Don
  4. http://www.stecksstore.com/servlet/StoreFront http://stores.ebay.com.au/stecksstore Bruce is a good bloke and will order in stuff like Osborne tools if you want. There is a Tandy in Minto (NSW) but shipping cost is ridiculous. Still cheaper to get it from Stecks. Cheers
  5. I get most of my consumables here : http://stores.ebay.c.../stecksstore (in true OZ retail fashion it's cheaper to get stuff shipped from a supplier halfway round the world than local). These guys are Brisbane based : http://www.maclace.com.au/index.php Not exactly local but may be worth contacting. Haven't used them myself so can't vouch. http://www.dimensionsinleather.com/about.htm (leathercrafters association of QLD).
  6. I'd love to see the faces at the apple genius bar when he brings his Mac in. The stachels you make are great. Really nice.
  7. Happy Fathers Day, dads.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping it's bikes and firearms rather than the wiggles but....

  8. Many thanks for sharing Tommy. And once again....really nice job. Don
  9. Really nice - carving and the colour. They will love it. Could you let us know how you went about bending the edges on the side panels so that they lay flat ?
  10. Jlee, grab a shallow pan not much bigger than the project, put a thin layer of dye in it and dip the project in it. You will get an even color. Drain off any excess dye left in the pan back into the bottle. Alternatively air brushing will get you a consistent color as well. Lastly, lately I have been putting a coat of neatsfooot on before I die and it really seems to give a richer color. Both methods work for me, FWIW.
  11. FWIW iron pounder I dip the non pointy end of a toothpick into glue and place a few spots to hold the pockets together before stitching.
  12. You people are awful. She is clearly an inspiration to rehabilitated criminals everywhere.......
  13. They're Vance and Hines short shot with heat wraps. Pretty sure that the heat wraps serve no purpose other than looking good ! Pitty didn't work because it actually looked nice on the pipe. But....you're right it's a ton of heat to cope with. Perhaps this is one of life's problems that can't be solved with leather.....like replacing the fan belt with a leather strip....... Thanks for your suggestions
  14. Cheers. The air gap does sound like the solution. I noticed some of the guys on this forum have leather in firefighting situations so wondered if there was a treatment to keep it from "cooking". Thanks Don
  15. Maybe I've become obsessed with leather, but all of life's problems seem to have a leather solution..... So a while back I made a cuff to go around my exhaust pipe....just where the heel of my boot touches....and melts.. and the leather cuff cooked. I used 4mm and thought it might be thick enough to survive.....guessing the only thick one was me.... Is there a way to treat leather to withstand some fairly high temps or am I looking at lining it with whatever the modern day equivalent of asbestos is ? Cheers Don
  16. Thanks Chris. I'm guessing you finish with resolene as you need to keep your work waterproof / resistant ? Don
  17. Oh sweet. Thanks guys. Cyberthrasher - how long do you wait before applying neatsfooot then the first primer coat ?
  18. So maybe it's just my (lack of) technique, but when I dye using an air brush, the dye doesn't seem to penetrate as well as using a dauber. This leaves it more susceptible to showing scratches. I would prefer to use caranuba wax or 50/50 bees wax and neatsfooot, rather than a resolene sealer, but I'm not sure that it will protect the dye enough. What are you guys/gals using ? Also is there any point in using a wax after you have used a resolene ? Will it penetrate or is it about as useful as trying to pour caranuba on a glass top table !! Cheers. Don
  19. Love the colour. Really nice work
  20. Beautiful work. Love the black and red
  21. I struggle to get the edges of my projects to burnish as well as you have done with the cross ! Really nice work - like the colour as well. Don
