  1. It seems like getting people to buy from me and not other people is going to be this biggest hurdle, and something I haven't figured out yet. I'm thinking completely hand-stitched pieces with completely American sourced materials and hardware, but I'm not sure I will be able to charge enough to justify the materials and labor. Just have a lot of looking to do. Thanks again.

due to a strong competitive market, finding an angle will help enormously, using all local materials is step in the right direction,

but then you still could do more, not excluding the ability to produce quality products that the market wants to buy.... for instance,

a person over here went around every furniture manufacturer they could find and scrounged as much of their off cuts as they could get, all free instead of going to landfill.

she then made slippers from them and sold them as recycled leather slippers and has done very well..... not saying this is what you should do and make, but its an angle, if you find one it certainly helps.. just my humble opinion....

  2. i have the 29k71

don't know about the others, but mine sews fantastic on really thick leather, if you can squeeze it under the foot then it'll sew lovely, but doesn't like thin leathers anymore.

if i could find another good one, i'd have the same again, as it allows me to repair anything in really tight corners and you don't need to turn your work round to sew in a circle......

fantastic bits of kit, when they work, but they really are cantankerous old gits when they want to be......

  3. thank you wizcrafts. things are looking up a little today, Ive replaced all springs on the 29k,, just resetting the tensions, its starting to sew thin leather now, (big improvement) but not properly, hoping its just the tension now, but will know tomorrow.

will know tomorrow, hoping its sorted but if not I'll try to see if i can inspect

    thanks mate

  4. you need to build a site, then get it added to as many free advertising websites you can find, there are hundreds of them some good some not so, but your after getting as many clicks as possible.

but definitely as Johanna says, need to learn the use of google analytics, etc, there are tons of different ways of improving your sites visibility takes ages to pick em up, took me a year to finally get on to first page on searches. so probably easier and quicker to pay a guy guy to do it, if you can afford it, I couldn't so had to spend two years playing.

all you need is on the web, just takes time to find and do.

good luck, nearly drove me insane.........

  5. i built my business website on yola,

not the best site out but it generates the majority of my work,

first two years costs totalled £17.00. waited till last minute before i renewed and they offered a lower renewal price. lots of templates to use, worth looking at

  6. hi everyone

I dismantled and binned an old jerome sewing machine, saved loads of bits.

gotta thinking about using the motor and foot pedal and attach a burnisher, there's a small grub screw which held the plastic pulley on, can be used to hold the burnisher on instead....

    post-33777-0-94185500-1394731520_thumb.j

attach to end of bench, have speed control over speed of burnisher via pedal.....

    post-33777-0-53663700-1394731531_thumb.j

I've just gotta get someone close to home with a lathe to groove me some hard wood, drill a 6mm hole and attach to motor spindle....

do you guys thnk it will work.

  7. i just dabbed a spot off my finger on a thick scrap, left a drop on the leather and it just soaked in and before my eyes turned clack, its amazing to see. if aplied by brush or dauber i would guess it would soak through also, after i had dabbed my finger on and left the drop, i touched another area of the leather that turned too. but not as dark so maybe able to apply less amounts? will have to play at some point
