Needle Size For Cobra 4 Question
Sharon Mallory replied to Sharon Mallory's topic in Getting Started
The needles are very long compared to my other machine which takes 135 x 17. I use fabric mixed with leather on some bags and I've only used up to size 92 thread so far. I will get 138 but I don't know how big 207 is. I found the magnets go on the cord but I like the idea of under the ledge to mount the light! I asked Steve before I bought this one and he said it will take 69 & 92 thread. I got the machine for the ability to sew with more of a free arm. I'm just not sure what to do with such big thread, needles too. Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate your advice! -
Just got this machine and I need to buy smaller needles for it than the sizes it came with but I don't know what numbers to ask for. My Artisan uses size 135 x 17 then either 16-24. Easy, this one has different numbers for each size and I don't know what to get, I don't want to hurt it. I need to get size 20-22 and I'm hoping to get them tomorrow at the store. Thanks. Also does anyone know where I'm supposed to mount the small led light on the machine? It came with screws and magnets. Thanks for any help. Sharon

Getting A Cobra Class 4 Soon
Sharon Mallory replied to Sharon Mallory's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thanks, I watched the video's as I threaded it too! There's another light that's small that came with it and I believe it goes on with magnets. I can't find where it goes in any of the instructions. It came with two screws to attach it also. Anyone have any thoughts on where to put it? Also I need to buy smaller needles, I want size 22, maybe 20 also and don't know what size to ask for. Does anyone know? Steve told me I could use size 69 and 92 thread as I have a lot of those from my other machine but the book says use 138 and up. Pretty sure I just need a smaller needle. Can anyone help me, I'm going to the store tomorrow to get larger thread and smaller needles. Thanks in advance. Sharon -
Just ordered this machine from cobra Steve and I'm excited to get it! After having trouble with bag making without a free arm I've decided to bite the bullet and get one more last machine. He was as nice as everyone said on here and even offered to help me with my Artisan if ever I need! Well it shipped today from California and I only live in the Phoenix area so I'm hoping to see it soon. I'm off after tomorrow for the week so it should be good timing. Thanks for all the information on everything so far and I'm sure I'll be learning more after it gets here!

I will get a loan probably and I like cobra, tech sew and the cowboy. I have a flat bed but feel too limited without the use of a free arm. I make bags and wallets and would like one that can handle whatever I'd like to make. There is only one dealer in the Phoenix area and I think I would have to have one shipped if there are no others. Is there any knowledgeable people that have advice for me on this? I also want to make sure I get a table that adapts to it. Any help woul be appreciated.

I live in Phoenix and there is a store here that sells industrial machines. They do repairs also. I called to see if they take trade ins because they sell cylinder machine and I would like to get one eventually. He asked what I had to trade in and I told him flat bed Artisan leather. He said they wouldn't take Artisan because they find they don't last as long as juki. I've had my machine two years and it works great I just miss the free arm. Does anyone know about this Artisan not lastin? I sew bags. They sell the ferdco and juki. Any suggestions? If you buy one that has to ship that's tough, right?

Got The "new To Me" Toro 3000
Sharon Mallory replied to Modad2010's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
So Cobra Steve sells other machines than just Cobra? How do you see what he sells? How do you purchase them and where are they located? -
Very nice job! What does it say?

Thanks Kenny, I guess you just have to get a bunch of machines before you get the one you need. That's where I'm at too I guess. Still love my artisan and I don't think you get your money back out of them either. Sad.

Hi, I've got a couple questions I was hoping some of you experienced folks could help me with. It's about a sewing machine for bags, wallets and perhaps other things. I currently have an artisan 618-sc1 for leather which works pretty well for purses and such but occasionally has a tough time getting through some especially thick areas. The problem is access to area's I need as there's no free arm, so I am entertaining the thought of a different machine. There is a cowboy 2500$ used on craigslist in Phoenix for 1000$ but I'm not sure if that's what I should get. I'm tired of getting the wrong machine and having to keep getting the higher level one. I don't see too many others for sale in the area that will do what I want. I'd like that cobra 4 I see but it's a bit more but if I have to keep getting different machines on the way is it really cost effective? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance. Sharon

I have an Artisan machine for leather and I love it. I never see anyone else that does or any threads about them. Is it unused or unusual or not considered a good machine?
