  1. Staples sounds great. Thanks for the tip. I have tried to find small ones - I don't want them to pierce threw the leather front side. A 2mm staple will do the work fine. Has any one found a supplier for 2mm staples?
  2. Hi all I am trying to sew a high pile of materials in a flat bed Dürkop. 5 layers of leather and waxed cotton is not easy to keep in control. Do you have any tips on a mounting tape that will stick to leather and waxed cotton? regards Lars Gustavsson http://www.farmersracer.com
  3. Hello all. Have any one seen a pippin punch with two holes? One hole in each end. Does it have a special name, have you tips of a supplier, and where? Looks like this: O-----O Thanks for all tips Lars Gustavsson info@farmersracer.com
  4. Thanks - this is great help. I will try to find the needle hight somewere on internet. If you find it in a drawer, please let me know:) Will start tuning the machine this weekend.
  5. Hello every one. My durkopp 239 has started to split the top thread. This happened after the machine has broken two thick needles. I have allready adjusted the needle bar so that the hook is catching the thread loop at the right moment (in the middle of the slot in the needle). But this means that the needle now has a turn point verry low - far below the hook. I think this creates a thread loop that is to big? Is there any way of adjusting the shuttle? The shuttle hook is 1/5 of a turn from the needle when the needle is at its lowest point. Is this to far away? The thread loop is realy big when the hook get to the needle. Is there a clutch in the shuttle that need to be reset? Or is there other timing issues? In addition to this the feed dog push the leather a little bit backwards at the end of each stitch. This has been a problem for a long time, and has nothing to do with the problem above. Do you have any tips on this timing problems?
  6. Hi I have looked into the needle bar issuu and it looks like Bob gets the prize:) The hook passed just above the needle eye. I have lowered the needle so that the hook passes just in the middle of the slot in the needle. Has worked fine even in the thick materials. Thanks all for teaching me what to look for. Best regards Lars G. By the way... check into http://www.farmersracer.com this is the design I'm working on:
  7. Thanks - I will check the feed doog and needle bar tomorrow. Any opinion on the thickness of the material? Is this to thick for this machine? from top: 18oz canvas + 1,5mm rubber + 18oz canvas + 4mm leather. Thanks
  8. Ok. I have checked - no damage to the hook. The broken needle did hit the feeding foot. I have sewn for one hour now in thinner materials and the machine works fine with this stack of materials: from top: 4mm leather + 18oz waxed canvas + 1,5mm rubber. perfect result. If I move up one layer of canvas the splitting starts. This stack is though in a different order: from top: 18oz canvas + 1,5mm rubber + 18oz canvas + 4mm leather. It seems that the thread loop that the hook shall cach is to tight - resulting in missing one or two fibres. I have worked for a few months on a singer 29k and when the materials get thicker it offers a way to adjust the take up. Is there a way to feed more material to the thread loop on a Dürkopp? or shall I try a bigger needle and less tention? Using a 120 needle and a serafil 15 thread. Thanks
  9. Well... I seem to have pushed the machine to far. It is sweing in its limits. I turned the fabrics and leather uppside down - and the mashine made a perfect stitch. But when I turn it over again the thread splitting starts again. I got a bigger singer 29k to do this job. But I am still intrested in the possibility to adjust the hook - needle distance. thanks.
  10. Hello. Just bought a dürkopp 239-525 Works realy well. But after a needle breakage the bobin hook has started to split the thread. How do I adjust the distanse between the hook and the needle? I have solved this by bending the needle a little - but its not the right way to do things:) Thanks Lars G.
  11. Hej - bor i Nybro (Hello - I'm from Nybro Sweden)
  12. Hello Wiz Yes we got a lot of dealers in England that can ship to Sweden. But the troubble is that they cant help me with the probelm of the machine - they just sell parts. Is it a comon problem with missing stitches at start or slow speed, or is my machine just to old and worn? My guess is that the shuttle driver is to worn and the shuttle is not in the right possition if it does not get quick rotation? I have tightend the tention on both upper and lower thread, as well as the pick up lever. The machine is pulling a realy tight stitch. Now I'm down to One single miss at start... Sadly this means one miss every corner and every start and stop:( Any guesses from you might help to bring me closer to a working machine. Best regards Lars G.
  13. Hello all. I got a singer that is working perfect - in working speed. But it is missing the under thread on startup. It takes three to four useless holes before the machine starts to work. It never looses a stitch att working tempo. But it is scary to slow down as I know that slow speed or stoping mean a great risk. And it is impossible to secure the thread at start and end. The shuttle driver is loose and ratteling - is it suppose to be a loose fit or is it the cause of the problem? I'm using a serafil 15 thread and a 150 needle. The thread tension spring on the needle shaft is broken. But I have replaced it with a aluminum spring mounted on the needle (on the pic). Seems to do the job. Any ideas about the missing start stitches?
