  1. Thanks Bruce. I would do that if money were no object, just trying to save myself $80 if possible o_0. How small are the holes punched by the 00 on the revolving punch? Small enough for stitch holes? That's all I want the 000 for. I know the 000 is 3/64 and the 00 is 1/16, but I'm assuming that the actual hole size will be bigger after the outside diameter of the tube pushes through the leather.

PS - the round knife you sold me is working great, thanks again :D

  2. I am trying to decide between the Osborne 155 revolving punch and the Osborne 153 spring punch with a few replacement tubes. The only reason i am really considering the spring punch is because the tubes on that go down to 000. The smallest tube for the revolving punch is 00. I am hoping to find someone who has both tools that can tell me if the tubes from one fit the other? It says they do not on the Osborne site, but they sure do look the same. Are the thread patterns the same?

I like the idea of the convenience of the revolving punch obviously...changing tubes out on the 153 punch would probably be a hassle, but if I can't get a 000 tube on the 155 revolving punch, then that's probably what I'll have to do. Thanks in advance. Cheers

  3. I have been using these spools for hand stitching that I pick up from my local Tandy reseller. I like the size but buying in these quantities is not very cost effective. I want to buy larger quantities from an online source, but I don't know what size this is. It seems to be about the thickness of a dime or maybe a little less. Anybody know?

  4. The easiest way to do that will be to wet form it in the shape that you need and get the sides flattened out. Other than that, the other option would be to glue them in place first so they're not trying to spring back on you while you stitch. But, wet molded will look a lot better. It also looks like maybe you're trying to stitch too far in. The distance from the edge should be about equivalent to the thickness of the two pieces combined (within reason).

Can you expand on this? I've struggled with the same issue. I have seen wetforming tutorials but I can't picture what you're describing.

  5. Thanks footrat! That was helpful. I practiced a bit last night with your two handed method, controlling the angle of the skiver with one hand and pushing the head along with the other. I did get better results, but it still feels like there is a lot of resistance. I guess I just need more practice. Sounds like the general consensus is to ditch the super skiver and get a real skiving knife :\
