  1. I got my samples from Royalwood Ltd and did a few runs of test stitching. My stitching is a work in progress and not as nice as I want it to be but I thought the threads were okay. The colors seemed consistent, to me at least, and the size was as even as I could tell. I am by no means an expert on thread but to my eye this thread looked fine for what I am doing. I ordered 5 colors in the 4 ply waxed linen thread (the natural 4 ply was out of stock so I ordered the 3 ply). Here's my stitch samples and the sample card for this company if anyone wishes to contact them.
  2. Just wanted to add some snap shots of the Coats Threads braided polyester threads sample card for their Classic Brio line, specifically for leather working, available unwaxed, lightly or heavily waxed, in .8 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.4 mm sizes. They have a large assortment of colors and are available in the US.
  3. A few days back, I ordered about 5 or 6 colors to try and they should be arriving soon. I'll definately update this once I have tried them.
  4. I usually make my patterns on a computer, then print them out, glue them on cardboard and then laminate the underside of the cardboard with a clear plastic laminate sheet, and cut them out. I then spread a thin layer of leather glue on the laminate side of the pattern using a canvas covered squeeze bottle. (a bit of canvas over the mouth of the bottle and rubber banded in place around the throat of the bottle. (make sure to cap the bottle after every use or the canvas becomes clogged) When tacky, I stick the pattern to the grain side of the leather I am cutting, cut out the pattern, then pull the pattern off. This helps keep the pattern in place while cutting. When I finished cutting, I remove the pattern from the leather. I then use baby powder applied to the laminate side of the pattern to neutralize the stickiness on the pattern, and place the pattern in a plastic sleeve, which allows me to use it again later. I've learned the hard way though that the glue must be a very thin coat and you must wait until it is tacky before sticking it to the leather. Othewise you will leave glue clumps on the leather surface which can sometimes be a bear to remove.
  5. Sorry to reactivate such an old thread, but I've recently come across a company in Ohio that sells 3, 4, 7 and 12 ply Irish waxed linen thread in 25+ colors, Royal Wood Ltd. (http://royalwoodltd.com) and I've just placed a test order. Has anyone any experience using the threads from this company?
