  1. Thanks for the reply. However, I am now using a Tippmann Boss to sew, so waxed thread isn't recommended. I would like to find spools.
  2. Thanks for the previous input. I have purchased a boss and am now looking for 277 nylon thread for it. I placed an order with www.sewingmachineoutlet.com/ricetn.htm, but received an email that the supplier of that thread has gone out of business. So I am back with a couple of questions. Is 277 what most people use for holsters? The thread exchange has a variety of colors in 207. Does anyone have another supplier they would recommend that has a variety of colors? I would like to find red, pink, purple, etc. Thanks in advance for your time.
  3. I am near Amarillo. I made a couple others first but I wasn't really happy with how they turned out. I'm open to input or suggestions if you see something that needs work. I want to get to where I can make and sell high quality products.
  4. Wow, those are beautiful!! My next holster will be have the snaps instead of a belt slot. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out, but I doubt it will come close to these! I'm impressed.
  5. I have spent the last few weeks reading everything I could here on holster making and have finally finished a couple that I am really happy with. I wanted to share pictures and get your feedback and opinions. I did get a little dye on the white thread on the one (darn it), but overall, I'm pretty happy with them. They are both for the XD Subcompact 9mm. I used the Boss to sew the avenger style and the pink and black one was by hand. I never knew this would be so addicting!
  6. Wow, thank you all for the suggestions! Now I have a few other things to try! Your suggestions have all been very helpful.
  7. Thank you all for the replies! I will figure out somewhere else to try the punch method that won't move and see how that goes. Thanks again! This forum has been extremely helpful!
  8. Thanks, Dwight. What kind of mallet are you using? I have the little poly mallet that came with my starter kit. I'm wondering if that is part of my problem...I put the holster on top of a piece of scrap on my marble slab, but it doesn't punch through easily. My bench does move just a little. It is not as solid as I would like. Thanks for your input!
  9. I'm new to leather working, but I'm pretty happy with everything I've learned (mostly from here) in a short amount of time. My holsters are looking better and better, except for one thing. I can't figure out how in the heck to cut a clean belt loop hole. I've tried an oblong punch (which I can't get to punch through the two layers of leather without feeling like I'm just beating the thing to death), I've tried a chisel, I tried an exacto knife.......I'm just about at my whits end with this last detail. So I thought I would pick the brains of the experts here....how do you all cut your belt loop holes for holsters and/or mag pouches and make them look nice and professional? I know there has got to be something I'm missing here. Thanks!
  10. Hi all! I want to first say thank you all for the great information here. I am a week into learning to make holsters and this forum has been extremely helpful. I have a question about thread and color options. I am currently hand stitching and I have a request for a holster with pink thread. Does anyone have any suggestions on a brand, etc? Right now all I have is a spool of waxed linen thread that I ordered from Springfield. I would like to find something with more color options that will still hold up well and I'm not sure what good types of thread are for this kind of thing or what I should avoid. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
  11. I would like to know what people think of each as well.
