What are the hole punches? Any oval in there? And is that a french skiver? and how much for the end punch?

Hi Everyone, I have been looking for a good oval belt hole punch. I have been using round punches to make my holes, but on thicker belts, round does not work well. So I have been looking at oval punches and not sure which one is worth getting. I see that CS Osborne has 158 punches. I am guessing size 5, 6, or 7 would be what I need. Anyone use those? What size do you have, is it worth its $60 price tag? Should I get something cheaper that might be as good at CS Osborne one? Or should I give in and get one from them. Thanks!

Get smooth feet for leather and you should be fine. I just got a juki dnu-241 HS, and it should be a good light duty machine. For bags, you should consider a medium duty cylinder machine to sew your bags.

No, Beating down the price is being physical and verbal until you take the item for free! Yes, got a different machine, and although I asked for less, the seller did not budge. I still came to get the machine (1.5 hour drive one way) and when I got there, the seller gave me about $400 worth of leather tools and thread for free on top of the machine. I was (still am) super happy!

You are more than welcome to say no. And even on people's websites those who want to attract attention offer discount codes and specials. So yes, people lower prices all the time. Nothing new and it's never gonna stop. If you are pricing fairly then there won't be people asking to lower price. But if you're asking 400% more than it's worth then who is being fair then?? I just saw an ad listing Singer 31-20 for $2000 on Craigslist. I emailed them asking if there's a mistake in the price. But no, they believe that the machine is worth that because their repair man said so. They called it an antique and despite me giving her reference links to its worth, they didn't budge. Was I being unfair? Was I haggling? I was gonna pay full value, but when someone is trying to gain from others' lack of knowledge, then it is you the seller that become "unfair"!

Wow, cat skin take it easy. I think you are comparing apples to oranges here. When I sell one of my goods, I act as a store front. When someone is selling on Craigslist that is same as an online garage sale. If you pay full price on CL without even asking to drop the price then I think you got the concept all wrong. I backed off the $200 sale that started with a $600 listing on Craigslist. I got a call last night from the seller and he's offering to sell for $160 now. So yes, CL is made to barter/haggle. My online or personal "storefront" is not that place.

Hi all, Don't know if many remember, but I posted a couple of custom round knives that my brother created for sale last year and had great interest in them (despite few grumpy people). I am in the process of designing a few knife styles for leather and wanted to see what people use most. What knife, what size, what would you want to see different, Do you guys skive a lot with a knife, or use a razor blade? Round knife or head knife? Let me hear your opinions on your cutting tools. Hey guys, me again My search continues for a sewing machine, and I just stumbled on a Juki DNU-241HS (see pictures). The seller is selling head and table. Should in in great working condition. They are asking $500 for it. Is it worth it? Any insight on the machine? I figure it would be good for lighter work (belts, wallets, canvas). Then I would get a cylinder machine for heavier bags and such. Your guy's advice is as always appreciated!

Hmm interesting. The seller told me that it actually leaves less marks on the leather. He called it the jumper? He said it does not have as many grip teeth as full walking foot and that made it a nicer finish on leather.

Hi guys, I have found an Adler 205 locally for $1300. Is it a good price? It is currently set up with 280- 340 for leather and webbing. Seems very thick. Had any one had experience with this machine? Is it worth the money? What is the thinnest thread I can use, min and max spi? Would it be good for leather bags, messenger bags, belts and collars? I normally use 2 layers of 6-8oz leather or thinner. I would eventually get a light flatbed for lighter stuff, but was hoping this would be good for heavier projects. But is it too much for what I need? Let me know, as always any advice is appreciated.

While looking for a medium heavy cylinder machine for larger bags and layered bags, I came across the opportunity of picking this machine up for $200. Is this machine worth the price? What are its limitations? Thinnest and thickest thread? Maximum stitches per inch? What would one typically use this for? I was originally thinking of grabbing a 31-15 machine, but this came up first. Your guy's advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

Andrew, I want to be able to sew like two 6oz pieces together... I was thinking of getting singer 31 type machine for thinner leathers with 69 thread? This is all new to me, but I just want to start in a good spot from where I can grow by making things that would hopefully sell that would eventually allow me to purchase a second machine that I would be missing on. How much do you want for your singer? Will you ship to Portland OR?

Trox, thanks for the input. It seems like that is what people here say to get when referring to the items I talked about. I obviously cannot get both of them. But are they really completely different? Based on my needs, what would be the machine to get? Anyone have any feedback or recommendations? I don't see myself changing a machine anytime soon, only see myself buying a smaller machine in the next year or so for very light and small stuff. I am going crazy here...

Okay I'm slowly going crazy over the options of sewing machines... I think I narrowed it down to two. I think. Cowboy CB3200 or Adler 69-373?? I am looking for cylinder machine. Light to medium weight. I will be sewing layerd belts, camera straps, some holsters, knife sheaths, messenger bags and briefcases and other bags. Want to mix canvas, wool felt and leathers. Don't think I will go over 1/2". I know one machine wont do everything, but I have to start somewhere, so I think cylinder will come more useful than flat bed. I want to eventually get something really light such as Singer 31-15 or so to do wallets and liners and light cloth projects, but that will come later. My top budget is $2000 including all the shipping. I am located in Oregon if that helps. Give me your thoughts or leads. I'd appreciate any advise. Thank you!

I've seen them as low as $400 for poor quality and $500-700 in good quality. I think you might be high on price. I'm not trying to low ball, just seems high. (I am not interested in it).
