  4. Just trying to help a small business qualify for a grant. They need 250 votes just to be in the running. Some of you may know of Standing Bears Trading Post in Reseda Ca. W.C is a great leather worker and teaches classes for next to nothing. I am taking a beginners class now and feel lucky to have him as an instructor. If they could get this grant it would really be a big help. Here is a link to vote. I think they only need about 60 more but only have about 3 or 4 days left.https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/58913 Thanks in Advance. Susan
  5. Tried to edit my original topic to say that but could not find how to do it. Anyway it is sold. Thanks to all that inquired. Susan
  6. Not ulsing this like I thought I would. Bought it from TXAG a few months ago. Paid $400.00 for it but will take best offer. I think he had it custom made by someone. Don't know how to post pictures on here but if you email me I will send pics.
  7. Not using this like I thought I would. Was custom made for another member that I bought it from. email and I will send pictures. Paid $400.00 for it but will take best offer. Moving and selling stuff.
  8. Yes, I have Robert Blacks and they are excellant for beginning. Could not have done it without his instruction.
  9. I think the first one was the best. I was hoping the advanced would be good, but did not have as much on it as the description said. Just my opinion. Yes his dvd's are not cheap. Oh and I rented one on horsehair braiding. It was amazing to see this latino man making a hatband. Dvd was poorly done but was still interesting to watch.
  10. If you have not already seen this, look up Bernie46 on youtube. He has a lot of videos and even shows how to do fancy plaiting. I just love watching him. I actually made a whip out of paracord and put fancy design on the handle. Can't afford to mess up expensive roo to start with. The darn thing actually looks good and cracks pretty loud. His website is EM Brand whips. His instructions can be accessed there to. Beautiful work.
  11. Well I signed up at giddyup and rented the 2 dvds. The first one was good, the second advanced one I was really disappointed in. Watched them both and returned them, then canceled subscription. So for $12 dollars instead of over $100.00 if purchased I got to check them out. Glad I did not purchase them.
  12. What TXAG said. I just use a fid when working with leather. You have to cut the leather to a nice point on the end first. Then just stick the fid where you want the leather to go, pull it out and feed the end of the leather in. Goes in easier than you might think. If using paracord then you will find a needle works some better. With paracord you have to cut the end at an angle and burn it to a point then just screw it into the needle end. Works pretty good most of the time.
  13. In Robert Blacks video he said he used a rubber grommet under a ring knot and it looked pretty good. Have not tried it yet.
  14. Very Nice. I really like the vertical stripe. Don't see that used very much on projects.
  15. I have a friend who seems to think I can braid these, ha. Anyway does anyone have any info on type of leather to use and what kind of braid for application. I have seen a few pics but not sure about the braid. The levers start wide and then taper down on the ends.
  16. Cool, Can I ask what kind of cutter splitter you got and how do you like it.
  17. I can't follow those graphs yet either. Seems nothing is simple. I have the Marlinspike Knot Works DVD and it is the simpliest I have found. He does an interweave with a second color. I also have Gail's book The Art Of Braiding Revised. I found her instructions hard to follow but finally managed to get the pinapple knot figured out and then the interweave was not to bad. I still have to look at the instructions even after making a dozen or so. One mistake messes the whole thing up. Have had to start over 4 times on one knot but got it done. I also would like to figure out how to do interweaves using more than one color for the interweave.
  18. Thanks Brad for the info. I wish there was a way to see a piece of well prepared lace so I would know what to strive for. Pictures just don't work that well for me. For now I think it is just about the same cost wise to go ahead buy from y knot. It is about $55.00 or so for 54 yrds and all I need to do is learn how to bevel. I do have the bevel tool they sell but not sure I am doing it right. Susan
  19. The lace I get from y knot is 54 yrd spool for 1/8th.
  20. Ok, thanks for the info. Not sure I am ready to tackle cutting my own just yet. I know the cutters and bevelers are pretty expensive for good ones. I will check out the calculator.
  21. Hi all. New here and to braiding. Been lurking and reading. I am courious how much 1/8 lace can be cut from a roo hide. I know it would depend on the size of the hide, but a rough estimate. Trying to decide if it is more cost effective to cut your own or just buy it. I know with buying it there is about 50 yrds on a spool. Thanks for any info
