      My one concern with saddle stitching the fingers is that I only have one-half of an inch of contact between the two 'wings'. So, I need to get as much strength as possible into that tiny little area. Is the saddle stitch appropriate for this? I'll post a pic soon.

      If it were me, i'd overlap the leather instead of sewing it where it meets.

      If you do it this way you can sew 2 rows of stitching running along the finger length, should be reasonably strong.

      Could be an issue with the sword rubbing the thread though, so either pull your stitches tight or if using thick enough leather you can use a stitch groover to let the stitches sit under the leather's surface.
