  1. I happen to have trouble contacting Ed Stiles too. Had a custom order paid exactly 1 month ago, had a reply from him on 22nd.

    Hope everything is ok.

I know that they are hard working folks, read a lot of recommendations, that is why I chose them.

Only that it would be nice to know how long it takes - excuding shipping of course.

I know I've been insistent with a couple of mails after we last spoke, and if Ed sees this post, I am apologizing for spamming.

  2. Hi

Coming a bit late with my reply in this discussion.

I noticed that applying on the surface of leather(not soak) the brown walnut hulls dye results in a bleeding leather - i guess this is the right term for wiping the dye with water.

Not tried with coffee so far but I assume it ll be the same result.

What veedub3 stated in a post earlier: adding some steel woo l as a mordant; I want to know if anybody tried adding small quantities of steel wool thus preserving the color of the coffee dye and then rubbin it ONLY on the surface, will it bleed?

Or , is there a natural-diy mordant which u can use with a natural dye such as walnut hulls or coffee?

I will try it soon and post my results.

  3. Thanks for the replies.

What I work with is 3 oz.

I think I am going to buy one because I am so curious. I work with .63mm linen thread and with awl goes ok, but the smallest hole I can make with my tools is 1.5mm in diameter which is huge for the thread.

I saw two diff types of punches on ebay: the tandy that has holes from 1mm and up and another one from "beads" smth that goes from 0.6mm and up. I will search for the other one and show you.

  4. Hi

Has anybody tried the hand sewin punch for two layers of 3-4 oz veg tan?
If so. What are the results? Does it work easily?
I know how to sew with awl but this time I want to be different...
Any opinion before I buy it?

    Thanks!

l.e.: I kindly ask the moderator to delete the other similar thread started. Bad connectivity...
