    turning good leather into scrap...
  1. keep the magna and get a sabre, two of hondas cooler bikes imo... second time I've heard of using an inner tube, can anyone explain that?
  2. seems I read somewhere about lightly oiling a project with neatsfoot oil before staining it, is this right? what advantage does that offer? thanks-
  3. I love tattoo flash tooled on leather - I think they are some of the coolest designs...
  4. "carry thier cell phone...." That is most commonly used tool when I ride my bike very cool work!
  5. I've seen some projects that have areas that are dyed white and the color seems bright and vibrant. I tried to dye some carved text on a project and I cant seem to get the white to cover, no matter how many times I coat it?? The areas I'm trying to dye are cased - that is the only thing that has been done to the leather. Does the dye need to be shaken before use like you would paint? I'm using Fiebings white....
  6. very cool! a seat is on my list of things to do when my skills improve... how thick of padding do you guys use on average? do you put anything around the metal seat pan to prevent it from wearing a hole in the covering? does having a tooled seat effect the comfort at all? thanks!
  7. very cool! whose pan did you use and what did you use for padding? thanks-

    Introduction

well, you asked for some pics so here goes, prepare to be underwelmed! these are of a holster of a gunbelt I made for my son (he's 5, so the scale of it is alittle skewed) never mind the lacing on the edge, it was what I had on hand... and here is couple others. These projects are the extent of my leatherworking so far, as I said I've only been at this for a couple months. I seem to be having the commone problems of figuring out the best way to case, edge, sew, etc. Please critique as I really want to learn to do this better, I'm having lots of fun with it. Oh and sorry about the pics, my photo skills are about as good as my leather work skills

    Introduction

Just found this place and it looks like exactly what I've been looking for. Started leatherwork a couple months ago and have been practicing on some smaller projects. Not having lots of success yet but will keep plugging away. Look forward to reading and learning as much as I can here! I teach Jr. High History and Shop class and in the summer I am a wildland firefighter. My other hobbies are building cars and bikes, metalwork, woodwork, hunt and fish and bbq (didnt have enough interests so thought I'd add leatherwork!) Anyway, I'll take a day or two to read up do some searches and I definately look forward to asking questions and learning from you all here! thanks-
