  1. I just saw this, thought I'd post it. I don't know this button off hand, anyone recognize it?
  2. Here's a link to a blog that has some good stuff for all you braiders. On the right hand side, there are some links to some braiders and guys that do fid work. A lot of them are in Spanish. Great pictures to look at though. Just though you all might enjoy them.
  3. If your looking for a saddle maker, I highly recommend Ryan Cope. I love the saddle he made for me, one of the nicest I've sat in! Well worth the money!

  4. Nice work, really looks great!! Bill is a really nice guy, easy to talk to and he'll really help you get what your looking for. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
  5. Nice job on the whip!! FYI there is a site shrikpictures.com that is free and will make your pics smaller and easier to post. I've found that 350 or 600 pixels work for most sites. I use there batch photo editor also, you can shrink several pics at once. Keep up the good work on your braiding, looks nice!
  6. Sure Matt, let me know about the horses. I like all of our horses, but there are a couple of fillies in there that I think are really nice. We would retain them, but right now 20 horses is plenty! Thanks for taking the time to check out our site. I've been putting some of my braiding up for sale on there also. It's under the Smokin' Hogan tab. Thanks, Jake Hogan
  7. Thanks everyone! I got my pic problem fixed. The files were too large. If any of you have that problem, try http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ I've used them quite a bit, it's free too. Here's the fixed pic.
  8. Thanks!! Haven't used used the rope yet! I just got the honda made the other day, probably wait until spring and try it out. Feels pretty good on the dummy though. I've used a 4 strand gold poly, it was OK, nice for roping larger animals, but you can't swing that thing forever, it'll pull your arm out of socket! This one is much smaller, I think 9mm, should be nice in a branding.
  9. Here are some pics of a honda too. San Juan style like the Dorrance's made. I also solve part of the bad pic's on my last post. Might have more to share next week. Thank you.
  10. Close up of knot on hobbles with the Smokin' Hogan mark! And some shu fly's. Sorry the pics are bad.
  11. Here are a few items I'm finally getting posted. 3/8ths latigo bosal w/ some pattern changes Some rawhide and roo hobbles.
  12. If you want to build that heel knot up a little more, I use 2 or 3 ring knots to pull my end through.
  13. Carpet knife blades work well too. I use them first and then come back and make a final cut with a thinner blade. I've found that pulling your string through hide side down and then hide side up will help when the blade is weak.
  14. This is where I get some roo hide from. http://www.ubraidit.com/ They're pretty nice people and they return phone calls, which is a plus! I've been pleased with what I have purchase so far. Here are some more places I have found that sell roo hide. I've never puchased anything from any of them. Your on your own there. There are a couple of people that sell it on ebay, just use some good judgment there, some of those hides are for gloves and garmets and they're awful to braid. For latigo, there are tons of places that sell it. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~welmat/rooskin.htm http://www.montanaleather.com/ http://davidmorgan.com/ http://www.eleatherworks.com/home.php http://www.murphywhips.com/index.html
  15. WOW! Thanks for all the great comments. I guess I should answer a couple of questions. Rob: I put Ray Holes Rawhide Cream on most of my stuff. I like to use it for maintaining rawhide. I don't like to schalac rawhide, personal preference. If the rawhide is really dry, I work in a really light coating of Fiebings Aussie Leather Conditioner on it and let sit for a few days where it's warm. Then I put a coating of rawhide cream on it. If it's cold, and the rawhide cream stays in the cracks of your braid, just run a hair dryer over it real quick to melt it, then work it in. I've used the fat from around the heart or kidneys of the animal, that works really good. You can try a local butcher shop if they sell hearts, slip the guy a 50 and he might save you some in the freezer. I try not to use anything that has alot of wax in it. The nose button part of your question is a little tough to explain (and long). I wil try to write down how to do it and post it. Jredding: My time to braid is limited so I don't take very many orders. I trade most of my stuff. Got anything cool to trade for? I hope to get to a point were I have enough time to do that. Sometimes it takes me a few days to make something, sometimes it takes 6 months or more. As I get things made, I'll try to post them here first. If you like what I have, I'll sell it (provided it's not sold or traded for already). The quirt is for sale and in Ryan Copes saddle shop. He is a member here and a great saddle maker! I might be able to work something out in a month or two. We are calving for the next 2 months and I already made a couple of trades that I need fufill, then I can work on something else. Keep in touch. Again, thank you for all the fantastic comments.
  16. And the heal knot Hope you like them, I'll post more when I finish projects. Thanks.
  17. I've been on here a couple of months and really enjoyed seeing all the work on this forum. There are some really talented people on here. I only get a limited amout of time to braid so I'll post things as they come along. I just thought I'd share a couple things I've made in the past. This may take a couple of posts, I'm not sure how to get the pictures small enough to upload more than one. This quirt is black and red roo hide with a latigo popper. Thanks Jake Hogan Smokin' Hogan Braiding Here's another of the quirt Here is the noseband on a 1/4" rawhide bosal
