    leatherworker, that's kinda why I''m asking. its not the time or effort because i'm usually over detailed to make it the best. I'm am a novice though. My thought is buckle square and that the leather is somewhat finished. I really need to upload picture so you can see. I tried to a few min ago and couldnt figure it out. lol. I am thinking more of the overall look. I am going to do a sample and burnish now and see what it looks like. Thanks for the reply to my post. Big

    I am making a belt today for my brother. The belt is going to be made from Meza veg tanned leather (very nice). It feels like it is finished. I am putting a square sheild belt buckle and was thinking of not burnishing the belt edges or applying edge coat dye (since I only have black). So,I was wondering what you all do to finish,conditioner, top kote, carnubba cream, wax or nothing on that kind of leather. I will try and upload picture for you. thanks in advance,

    I am working a guitar strap lined with pigskin and I have 3 screw on conchs to add. Would you add them before the lining to cover up the screws or after. Also do you just condition the pigskin or is it best to add super sheen or Tan-Kote ?

    I am making a pigskin lined guitar strap for Collective Soul. I have 3 conchs to add, do i add them before the lining so the screw is covered ??

      I have made them both ways.if the cochos are silver and would need to be polished occassionally I will explain to the buyer the advantage of being able to remove the concho and have less risk of discoloring the leather from silver polish. also if thechicago screw is visible it also gives them the latidue to change the conchos to something else for different look

      Screw conchos eventually loosen. I generally leave an opening to tighten them when necessary.

      I always put a dab of of lock tight on the screw but use the lower strength one I have also used silicone contact cement and elmers in a pinch

    Thanks for the input ! I like the idea to put thin lining on pocket side. Not wet formed and trigger covered. Much appreciated BIg

    Hey Chief, I just got asked to make a holster, will be my first for that american derringer. My customer wants to carry it in his front pocket. He was looking at a card wallet I made and we put the pistol in it. I was going to take the gun and wet form it, make it kind of flat, so it will lay nice in that pocket. My question is about lining the holster or keeping it plain. Lining would be nice, but I think it would be too thick in the end. I would appreciate any thoughts or advice. Again, this is my first holster. Thanks Big.

    I am from a small town located in the foothills of North Carolina called Taylorsville. The town is kinda like Mayberry on Andy Griffin. The town closes on 5 pm, Monday thru Friday and 2pm on Saturday. The closest city is 24 mi away, Hickory. Red, I am also a shooter, just not in SASS. I was when it first started, but didn't get out to participate. Thanks for your welcome. Alot of people call me Big Dave, but that name always seems to be taken. Funny, I have just the name Big on two forums.

    Hello, my name is Big and I live in North Carolina. I started leather work in October of this year. I have always been interested in leather, the lifespan and uniqueness, feel and smell of leather. I make wine, jerky,pork skins. I also play mandolin,harmonica and guitar.
