Bruce - I have only done 1 inlaid seat, about 4 years ago - I formed a piece of tooling leather, about 8 0z. over a padding of shearling with the fleece cut to about 1/2 inch. The shearling was shaved around the edge about 1/2 inch and sewn in, fleece side up along with the inlay leather. Finished with oil and Australian wax and after four years doesn't seem to be any packing or movement of the fleece. I'm thinking about doing it again on the saddle I am currently working on. Ron

Tae - It might be worthwhile to check some of the Scrapbooking shops, perhaps Michael's - they have lots of different shaped paper punches with decent steel cutters in them. My wife has several different ones, snowflakes, geometric shapes, etc. They come with the steel cutter inside a hard plastic body - the paper slides in the bottom and the cutter is depressed with a short plunger from the top. You could try a small, inexpensive on and butcher it apart to get at the cutter to try on leather.

I have a 1 foot by 2 foot slab of granite counter top 1 inch thick, great for carvng and tooling on - no bounce or movement. Price was right - a free mis-cut from a local cabinet maker. For riveting and other heavy pounding I use a piece of cold-rolled steel 1 inch thick, 6 inches square - cost me $5 from the local welding shop.

Bob - New to the site - I'm looking for a used machine to start making harness and also to get away from hand stitching saddle skirts. Have you used the Mach 1? If so, what is it capable of punching through? If not, what is your best guess? Thanks
