I think the effect is done by painting twice, then wiping some of the second coat of with a solvent. But I do not think this can be done with dye's. More likely with acrylics or the like. Hope this helps. Kim

Hello everyone! Since I have not been active much on this forum, I thought I'd post some pictures of things we recently did. The first is a new handbag I made for my fiancee. The next was an experiment with imitation gold leaf on some bracers: And the last one is a pair of bracers that were ordered from us. They have a piece of aluminium inserted underneath the wolf cutout. I hope you like them :-) Kim

I would second that. Use an airbrush, makes your life a lot easier. Personally I will never use white on such a large area. I have only bad experiences with this colour, either not covering well, or peeling off when trying to stich something on it. Mind you, those were 2 different types of paint used then. But please let me know how it turned out, or better yet, post a picture of the result. Hope it works for you. Kim

I used 3 mm veg tanned leather. I was not sure if the details would come out if I used thicker leather. As this is my first try, I will try other thicknesses in the future to see how they work. Best regards, Kim

Hello Everyone, It has been a while since I have posted something so I thought I'd share with you my latest project. Basically a friend of mine said, can you make me a leather predator mask? And I said, sure... Having a good idea what was needed, but still misjudging the time it took to make. He had send me some pictures and we decided on which style he wanted. Amazing how many different designs you can have for the same mask. First I made a cast from the guy's head, and then started modelling. you'll see the picture I tried to model it after in the background. Then when he came to see, he decided that it was not quite what he wanted, and I did a remodel: After that I we had another look, and made the brow's more angular, and the rounder shapes in the front more straight, and the nose more flat. Then I made a mould of that in silicone rubber, and cast it in casting stone. That piece was used to form the leather over: Cut out, and the dreads were added: Coloured the piece. And buffed and polished it. Then he added some beads to the dreads, but the whole thing became so heavy, it bent the top piece flat on his head. So still some foam needs to be put under it, but I still think it looks pretty ok on him: Best regards, Kim

You could also try to make a mold with plaster. Generally you can buy those plaster strips they use for when you break your arm and cast a mold at a pharmacy. Do use a thick salve underneath so you can still remove it easily, don't know the english name right now for the stuff we use. If you do use this method, keep an eye on your model as it may get quite warm underneath the plaster and your model may feint. The more you cover, the bigger the chance she may feint. After you've made the mold you can then make a positive and start working. Other option would be to take a normal bra of decent quality and fill it up with for instance coconuts or whatever comes close to the real deal in size. Best of luck, Harma P.S. Hello everyone, My name is Kim, and I am Harma's boyfriend. Been doing leatherworking for some time now, and as you have seen from Harma's pictures, we do mostly Celtic designs. I like experimenting with different materials to combine in our leather items, which gives sometimes some very nice results. Like to know more about hardening leather. Have successfully done this with wax, but I am sure there are some other ways as well. Anyway, thanks for having us here, I have already seen some amazing stuff, so I think I still have much to learn :-) Some more pics of my work:
