  1. Art, shame you don't like Drambuie - I bloody love it! gmace99 I was of course teethed with whisky - that is just standard lol. My pals mum use to put a wee bit of whisky in his milk! I went for Afternoon Tea today and winked round the table about the 'cream tea'. The English wimin did not laugh and Adam just just gave me the sigh of a long-suffering man. I'll have to remember about liking to dip ginger nuts for the next time :D
  2. Aberlour is my favourite easy drink whisky. I also like Talisker and love Laphroaig. I really like Drambuie, have you tried that? It's a whisky liqueur, but the recipe supposedly came from Bonnie Prince Charlie so it's grand. First time I got drunk was with my Dad on Rusty Nails (whisky and Drambuie). I was 12, my mum was not pleased.
  3. gmace99 I have fruit pudding in my freezer, it's my Scottish visitor tax. I can't get and miss - Edinburgh chippy sauce, black bun and fresh butteries (from when I lived in Aberlour for a few summers). Zuludog I have been known to wear one when dog training.
  4. You're a bloody poet gmace99 Fanny pack/bumbags went out in the 80s in the UK Zuludog, along with shell suits and the mullet lol
  5. lol gmace99 that was very delicately put
  6. Wow Aaron, that is incredibly generous!
  7. Love the Robbie Coltrane story. My sisters and I pretty much grew up in a rugby club as a kid. As a consequence my Da was brought in to see the headmaster an awful lot. One of the more shameful time was for me shouting 'You're a fud' at my teacher in primary school. Oh dear. I still think it is one of the worst insults, reserved only for the truly, irredeemably stupid. Only time I ever used it was after Adam just passed his test and reversed into a bollard... then kept reversing, stopping and starting several times, with a look of utter confusion on his face :D I was an innocent when I went to gmace99 for leather help. Came out swearing like a sailor lol. Hope the move is going well matey. I've got my eye on Ebay - don't think your mate had anything. Give me a shout if you hear of any sales.
  8. Thank you very much everyone. Will look at the vids right now Art lol Kevin, I forget all the time that people have no idea what I am talking about. Thank you for translating for me Zuludog :D I blame gmace99 he makes me too Scottish hehe.
  9. Will keep an eye on ebay as well, thanks guys, Tandy don't sell the powder dye any more. I need some brown dye for edging, can I just use Fiebings oil dye or do I need to buy the special edging stuff (before I go wasting money)? Went to a place this morning and they were selling dog leads - they were not a patch on mine was chuffed to bits.
  10. That's really nice, what's the stingray feel like? Was it nice to work with?
  11. Hey, I am beyond poor, but I am loving my leather work. I want to buy a round knife as a recent play with one says that it is a really useful tool. I am in the UK. Le Prevo has one for £25, which is ridiculously low. Has anyone used one, is it ok or basically crap? http://www.leprevo.co.uk/photos/round-knife.html The other option is the Osborn #70 which is £60 and will take me a few months to save up for. http://www.handtools-uk.com/p116-70-round-knife-osborne-ref-70 Really grateful for advice as ever.
  12. Had a brilliant day with George at his shop, wee legend that the man is. Edging is sorted, I just need some practice! Need to get better at handling a round knife, it's a lot harder than it looks and the only thing that's really given me trouble so far. Partner is now bugging me for a glasses case
  13. This is truly beautiful.
  14. Thanks Red, your stuff looks lovely from your pic, thanks for the tip about sanding. Art, I have used a lot of Ian Atkinson tutorials he is really good. I wish I could have joined the Scouts and not the Brownies when I was a kid. I want to learn how to splice better and make decorative whipping, pretty sure they do that in the Scouts too.
  15. Cheers very much Art, that's really interesting. I am currently trying to find a decent book - youtube can only get you so far and I don't want to bug the forum ever time I get confused I really need to learn more.
  16. I'll give you a call tomorrow!
  17. That is incredibly generous! I would be crazy not to take you up on that. We are about 2.5 hours from you, would you be OK with Tuesday? My partner would have come down with me as I can't drive. What time is best with you? Thank you very much.
  18. I am making a dog lead. Spent the last wee while figuring out how to twist them and make them look right. I bought a Tandy No2 this afternoon. I will have a look for Dixons. I'm currently in Halifax moving down to Oxford in a few weeks. I'm from Penicuik outside Edinburgh though
  19. You are right, and burnished up and I often find even if there are small faults no one turns down free hand made leather goods! Thank you.
  20. Thank you, I am hooked! This is my 3rd project in 2 weeks, plus all the time I spent before hand looking it all up. My first belt is wonk and frankly awful but my partner loves it and he wears it proudly (whilst I cringe in the background because I am a perfectionist). I know I have to burnish it, but what do you think of the picture? Too much beveled off or does it look OK?
  21. Hello, This is my first project where I am attempting beveling and then burnishing. Normally, on the few projects I have completed, I have simply burnished the ends. The leather I used was 0.14" (3.6mm) thick and 3/4" (19mm) wide. The beveler I used was a No3 from Tandy. I am really inexperienced, but this doesn't look right to me. Have I used the wrong angle or the wrong tool or will it look better when burnished? How do you know what size skiver to use? Link to imgur album Example for those who don't want to look at Imgur:
  22. Thank you so much for your help. I think I will buy some cheap leather straps and have a go at different techniques, at least now I know it is possible I have only looked at Angelus acrylics, so I will have a look at their dyes as well. Another thing I fancy doing is getting two bits of leather and cutting holes in the top bit and then slot different material in between. Might be a bit too complicated. I wish to goodness i could find a leather class under £500 in Oxford. Not that I don't think I they aren't worth £500 but I just don't have it!
