The weight is light as that was one of thing we considered with this design also it's not bulky at all fits comfortably in your hands just like a regular magazine would just a tad bit wider. Thanks for bringing up the back portion of the unit, since I did not provide photos of it, none of the buttons, camera, speakers are blocked and or covered so there is no need to remove it from the case. We sculpted the back / stand portion around all the gadgets in the units . We had been paying attention to a few other cases and noticed all that you mentioned hence we came out with this one.
Thanks for the feedback though, really appreciate it
Looks good but it appears that the cover will add a lot of weight. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the ipad itself is strapped to an inner case that protects the back of the ipad and then that inner case snaps into a larger folio style case. If I'm correct that means in order to use the rear facing camera you would have to remove both the inner case and outer folio case as well. having a case that adds too much weight and makes it difficult to use the camera could be problematic for the end user. I'm an ipad2 owner / user and i've already returned two different cases b/c of each of these issues. A case that adds a lot of weight causes fatigue in your hands / wrists when reading on the ipad for prolonged periods of time.

Thanks
Really nice cover there Joe!

Hey All,
It's been a while since we last posted on Leather Worker. Allot of it is due to our office space relocation and we have also been hard at work with private label stuff. But I'm happy to announce that we just came out with our new design for the Ipad 2. It's a leather book cover case which protects your unit from dings and scratches but yet aesthetic and very functional. Leather Case lays completely on it's back and also detaches from exterior shell and stands on its own.
Let us know what you think? This is the first design but we will be coming out with many more flavors to this case. Custom designs are welcomed.

Well we have been getting allot of request from women that our line was to masculine so we decided to show our women some much love by coming out with our first collection of small leather wristlet pouches.
They are all hand dyed and aged with leather dye. We use veg tan leather. Zipper and other hardware can be acquired at any fabric store near you.
Designs are sketched onto the leather.
Let us know what you think.
Thanks, -J

Hey all,
We have been hard at work and decided to come out with our fist line of belt buckles.
We are using veg-tan leather for the inset and Inlay belt buckles can be found at your Local Tandy Leather Store (Big ups to the Tandy Leather Store of Baldwin Park).
Designs are sketched onto the leather.
Let us know what you think.
Thanks, -J

From time to time we like to take on special / custom request from our customers. This is a Batman & Green Lantern custom kindle sleeve we did for one of customers that is very much into comics.
We used veg tan leather for the exterior and lined it with felt for a cushioned interior. Top inside portion has a piece of velcro for a secure lock fit.
Exterior was laser sketched while color was hand dyed onto the leather.
Let us know what you think.
Thanks, -J

You know that was one thing we had in mind when we came out with this particular design but it has not been any problem at all. All metal part are covered so nothing is ever exposed or touches the actual unit from the inside. In terms of the pressure, we add a little bit of shoe grease to the rim of the snaps to make it even easier for the buttons to snap shut and or open.
-J
No issues with the snap pressing on the screen?

Thanks. The buttons we designed in house and Joe V. Sr (father) works with jewelry so he casted them for me.
I like your finishes A LOT. Very nice product - you should do well with those. By the way, who made your snap buttons for you? They really add a great finishing touch.

Hey John,
Great observation, that is exactly the same thing that was running in our minds before we went ahead with this closure. The manila folders uses two snaps heads which are covered / padded from the bottom, so no metal part ever touches or makes contact with the product, also the reason why we use a leather lace to lock the feature so that there is no pressure while closing. If we would have gone with the conventional method of using a line 24 snap then yes, it would create some pressure and quite possible create some stress / scratches on the piece.
The sleeves only use a snap head on the top while using Velcro on the bottom, hence avoiding pressure / stress on the item. I hope this information serves of some use.
Please post your work when you get a chance so we can look at it.

Those all look great. I have one concern and that is the use of the metal buttons as closures on the front of the cases. My concern is that by creating a hard point the Ipad could get damaged if something hard were to hit the case on that button.
I too have been considering making Iphone/Ipad cases and so I have been studying them a bit. I own an Ipod touch and my friend has an Ipad. I don't think that I would put any sort of metal closure on the case which could lead to damage. I honestly think that it creates a product liability headache that you don't want with $500 devices.
I protect high end pool cues for a living so I am kind of sensitive to these things.
Other than that awesome job on the looks and designs. I know that deciding on patterns and colors is often one of the harder tasks on things like this.

Thanks Spinner, and believe it or not, we use Fiebing's dye the same one's available at Tandy's or any shoe repair store.
Thanks! Looking back at your site, your coloring is simply awesome. You've chosen great colors, and they have such a warm, rustic feel to them. Can I ask what type dyes you're using, and how you're applying them?

Very nice stuff, just checked out your website, great craftsmanship.
I've really only focused on holsters, but would like to make leather boxes, bags, cases, etc, but just haven't gotten around to it.. Last year, my mom asked me to make a leather box for her to store her genealogy research paperwork in, but I've been to busy keeping up with holster orders to try anything else. I've posted a bunch of photos to the holster section of this forum, or you can check out my website in my signature.

Thanks Spinner and no way .. 8th and Fig is right up the street from us, just a few blocks away. Yeah Menolly, like Spinner said check out ebay to get some dummy / display units for some of these accessories. We have a mixture of both, so I just buy the samples to save money and not worry about breaking / scratching and some I buy legit as I use them for personal use.
Some good looking sleeves & holders Joe. Checked out your website too, some nice work there too.
Looks like we're neighbors as well, I work near 8th & Fig.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For Menolly & others - if you're looking to make ipad, kindle, etc. holders as a repeating project, check out ebay. There are a bunch of folks there that sell dummy units. I have one for the iPad that I use for measurements & pictures, much cheaper than buying the real thing (they're about $30) and it doesn't matter if I scratch it or get it wet. Here's one I've used and was happy with: http://stores.ebay.c...BestMart?_rdc=1
Thanks Particle, do you have any work of yours which we may see?
Very cool! Love the colors.

Glad your doing well ABN
Doing well.... Still chugging along!

Hey Fredo,
Trust me, I threw many .. and I mean many samples in the trash. My father is the true artist, I'm still learning day by day. Keep at it.
I looked at your work and through my wallet in the trash.

Hey Menolly,
Thanks for the compliment, really appreciate it. In terms of the added space we usually add around 1/4 to each side for the ipad to give it a bit of breathing room.
In your case it all depends on the type of leather / material you are going to use and how thick it is. We actually did a few testers before we got it right for the styles / designs we wanted to come out it.
But start of with 1/4 on each side that should work for you.
-J
I really like the patterns and coloring on your Ipad sleeves. I am trying to make a sleeve for an ipad for a christmas gift but am not sure of what the measurements should be. I dont mean I want your pattern or anything. I am just not sure how much bigger to make the case than the Ipad. Thanks!

Our Doctor Who fans have been very happy with our River Song Diary leather covers for both Tablets & eReaders and just recently one of them asked if we can do the Book of Weeping Angels. Well, we are glad to inform that we just now finished our prototype and are very pleased with the outcome. This was fitted for and iPad 3, but we will have them available for all versions of Kindle, Nook, and Google Nexus.
Please let us know what you think, we are also working on The Never Ending Story Book for iPad & Kindle and well as the Book with the Seal of Rassilon.
Hope all is doing well, have not posted here in a while.
