  1. We are looking to move our business to the next level by purchasing a clicker press. We have a few we're looking at but we don't have access to 3 phase 220 power. Has anyone had success using a converter of some kind for this in their residential setting? We aren't quite ready to move into a commercial shop setting and pay rent every month. We need an option that will allow us to continue in our current space which is residential. We are currently looking at a couple of different Atom press options but would also consider a manual option if the cutting surface was larger (I believe Weaver's 8 ton is only 12x24 and they are not available currently anyway). Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!
  2. I just returned from a trip to India where I visited a manufacturing facility that uses a laser cutter to cut their patterns out of leather. They can then employ women with minimal skills to sew their satchels by hand using an awl sewing method (which still takes considerable practice and skill in my opinion). They can produce a very high end product this way. They use leather from a local tanner who employs more environmentally friendly practices to produce a dark veg tanned hide. I got to see this in action and then sit with the women as they sewed. It was an incredible experience, one that has me investigating this option for my own leather products here! The name of the business is The Loyal Workshop, they are just getting started but I believe they have so much potential. Anyway, I'm very interested in this discussion even though I realize its a few months old....
  3. Hi, I'm new here...first post:) I just bought a cones 206 rb-2 and am getting it set up. I bought a servo motor and my kind husband installed it for me....now I'm trying to figure out how to adjust my tension and I'm having some difficulty. I am sewing with size 207 thread to mimic my hand sewing which produces the look I want. I bought the correct needles for that thread (180/24, leather) but I still keep getting loops on the bottom of my stitch line. The top stitches look great, the machine doesn't hesitate to sew my project, but the bottom stitches are just a tiny bit loopy - or not even that, they just don't sink into the center of the leather like they should. I've adjusted my top tension until my thread actually breaks when I pull it....seems too tight...but it's only changed my stitch appearance slightly. What am I doing wrong?? I would love any info you all might have to offer! Thanks, Alicia
