all the knots I know how to do and I can't figure this one out!!!!
-
Ha ha, you are right no picture...darn thing...anyway it looked OK except that it had a pararelle. have your pictures and Enrique's book in front of me of another try.
-
I have been known to put sit on the board and roll my pieces with springfield leather. Your hand and cardboard isn't quite enough. You want to roll it between two strong pieces ( and clean) of wood. Though I have heard of people using other things to accomplish this task.
-
Ok, I think I have it mostly, but I messed up at the end of step 4 in Enrique's book, page 64-65. As you can see I ended up with a parallel. I was having a tough time trying to figure out where to put that last string on step 4 so I am assuming that is where the mistake came from. The rest looks like a Spanish ring.
-
Yeah, Enrique calls it a "simple" button, and I'm feeling a little inadequate about now. I thought I had reached the stage where some directions and instinct would carry me...but so far it's not really working for me. LOL thanks Megabit
-
Yes a terminal ring knot! Your directions are unclear to me though. 4 strands I do not want to cut off the 4 strings though.
-
Yes, I am sure you can, but I am having a hard time following cause I'm not using it as 4 string ring knot, rather a terminal knot. I have Enriquies book as well, and he shows you how but I need another reference cause he doesn't show all the angles. I get the downward and upward "spur" knot done and then I get lost. Same with knothead's directions...I get lost. I can't visualize the knot for some reason!
-
I wasn't able to follow the directions completely in grants book, I will look up this thread, thank you very much!

Springfield string is difficult to work with but doable, I use it everyday. I do stretch it just slightly. Be sure your beveling and splitting is consistent, and watch for imperfections! Sometimes you can get a spool cut from a bad part of the hide, or one that has imperfections. Be sure to anchor your piece while you are braiding to help you get equal tension and prevent twisting.

I know I have seen a terminal kot in the style of a spanish ring rather than the more traditional turks head style, anyone know where I can find that info. Been through all my books with no luck.
-
Thanks! It's actually cow hide leather I was looking for. Finding color in roo very difficult and I saw some wonderful braiding with cow hide and wanted to try my hand at it. If I could cut 1/8" and about .9 or .8 mm thickness I would be pretty happy.

Knothead is being modest, he sells beautiful hand cut lace, you should PM him. I braid with Kangaroo and I don't change the width of the string with beveling either.

Hi all. I need to splice plaited mohair split reins so one of the ends does not have a knot. Anyone know how, and also will it hold up?
-
Thanks Enrique.

If you just added some sort of jump ring to the top loop, it would go the right way for a necklace. Just saying. It would make a very nice pendant. I've been putting thick fishing line as the core though so the cross holds shape. I think it's 100 pound test line. I think it also make the loops more "loopy"
-
Thank you, and thank you so much for your instructions, I couldn't have done it without your easy to follow cross! I have 4 now. 2 ornaments and 2 key chains. I made the key chains 8 plait and a bit smaller. They are drying now but pictures later. They are really really cool!
-
Very nice....of course, like always
-
Now we are talking!!! this one is secure enough to be a key chain. Keep in mind it hasn't been finished yet.

I have all different sizes if you are talking about the plaited cross. The size I like best is 4" X 2 3/4", but I think I would like the arms of the cross just a bit smaller, so I'm still experimenting. But skyout's center in some form is the way to go. The traditional center is beautiful, of course, but does have back. The back side didn't really bother me until I made one that was the same all the way around. Skyout, I can't do the cross like you do in roo, it won't hold. It has to be over something permanent.
-
VERY good instructions skyout! I got tricked around one of the loops the first time, had to pull out a bit, but then watched for it the next time with no trouble. This is what I came up with. I don't know why it's sideways?? very weird. It doesn't show up like that in my photo program or my iphone. Anyway I want to extend the size of the knot and add a pass, let's see if I can figure it out. It seems as thought it is possible.
-
very nice skyout. I just might try one of those.
-
I know Brian, but putting the snap and the braid together is something you did first and it should be acknowledged. The snap was a good idea.
-
I actually don't mind the back to much. I'm making them as Christmas ornaments and then I'll give them as gifts I think. However I would like to learn the other turks head so I will take a look. Thanks Knothead. You always have good things! First knot of the knot chapter, I'm embarrassed to say. The one you said was most common and most simple. I couldn't even get past the square knot. I will have another go. Anything worth doing is worth taking the time.
-
LOL...Well when you are that good and willing to share I bet the questions are never ending. In fact I tried making the first "simple" knot in you book and ended up putting it away without accomplishing my mission. I'm going to have another go soon. I ended up hiding the strings on the back side of the cross under the loops. I'm calling it a Christmas ornament so I should be OK. Do you know if an interweave can be added to this?
