  1. They do look very nice, but I'm wondering if you tightened the knots at the turn back. They look a little loose yet.
  2. I layer my knots on the scarf slides. Spanish ring, then a 4 or 6 pass herringbone, with an 8 pass herringbone on top. The top button can sometimes have a second interweave. I make them over a piece of leather on a dowel, then slide it all off. I think it was rawhide that suggested that. No glue or extra pieces required. I don't make them much anymore though.

    Hat Band

Anything worth doing is worth doing well....now that you are back up river cover those terminal knots and put a weave in those turks heads while you are at it.

    Hat Band

Very nice, but maybe there needs to be buttons over the terminal knots.
  6. That's exactly what I did and even used the same bracelets. Here I thought I had an original idea. LOL Good thing I wasn't counting on that. I wrapped mine with cotton medical tape. I thought the leather would stick to the cotton better than the other tapes I use, and it's really thin. There isn't any slipping that I can feel. Ok, are they called bangle or cuff bracelets. I thought they were cuff.
  7. I braided around a silver toned cuff bracelet! Hee hee hee...
  8. I really like these. I've been wanting to try it for a while and finally did. Even my husband, who doesn't think anything leather is particularly exciting, likes them.
  9. So many ways to cut roo!!! Use gail's book to find out what you need to cover your core. 8 strands1/8" calls for 3/16 core. I only know that because I use it a lot and did the math long ago. Oh 8 strands 3/32" takes 1/8" core, that one was given to me and I use it the most. I hate doing the math and try to avoid it at all costs. Beven seems not to mind though so pick his brain as much as you can and write it down. Google will change his aussie mm measurements into inches for ya. The only thing I would suggest is you not cut your strings any larger than 1/8". Kangaroo is just to beautiful and strong to cut larger than that in my opinion. The smaller, the more detailed, the more beautiful. Of course this is only my opinion.
  10. I think it's more likely my poor grammar and lack of proof reading. Geez. Well, I meant to say it took me a while to figure out how to tie the square knot over the plaiting, but I got it. Next time I make one I will take pictures for you.
  11. Goodness sake, did you understand what I said, because I surely don't.
  12. It could be in a book, but I actually made it up for me. It's really not that hard if you play around with it a little. I had to take redo the first few square parts of the terminal knot until I tied it correctly on the plaiting. Next time I do one I'll be happy to take pictures for you.
  13. Sure. I tied the terminal knot around the necklace, put a small herringbone over the terminal, shaped it and cut off all the strings, then finally added my 8 bight over the whole thing.
  14. Thanks guys. It was in my store about an hour before it was gone. Woo-who. Always a good sign.

    New Necklace

I really liked this one so I thought I'd share.
  16. Very good thought Alan! Anytime I'm making something new for a horse, it goes on my own horse several times before it's done. My memory also goes back to the bosal discussion. I don't use them so I don't make them. I've had to say no a couple of times to making one and it's hard because they are beautiful and it might be fun, but I really wouldn't know all I should know about their use.
  17. Ewe precut Tandy lace! I think some of our braiders on here cut some lace for sale. There is nothing more frustrating than getting most the way through a large button and then having a strand break! It's going to happen sometimes with good lace until you get a feel for the leather. No reason for that to happen more than it needs to. A braider should know what part of the hide he/she is selling to you and it will probably be beveled and/or split so even a beginner's work looks lovely.
  18. Braiding headstalls and reins takes HOURS, use only the best materials. The time isn't worth it unless you are just practicing.
  19. I'd be interested in California...sadly not Texas.
  20. I think you need to tighten your knots. I use a cutting board and a clean piece of wood to roll. It rolls a little easier if it's a little damp.
  21. What a great looking leash! Wow, I love this style. Anyone can just use a plain old pineapple to cover the turnback, (I insist on covering all my turnbacks as well) but I love the way your round button just pops out at ya. Very unique! Only thing I might do differently is have both ends the same color combination in both knot settings.
  22. We all have our preference Megabit, it's OK, I don't think you are trying to start something. if my horse was to step on his reins and panic, the bridle would slide open and release the bit from his mouth. I like having a way out too. Train, train, train, always training but still accidents can happen. 8th Sinner...Yes quite a lot of work in these. The pineapple knots don't have anything under them. The herringbone buttons have 4 bite herringbone buttons with 1/8" string under them so they have a rounder shape. I didn't like the look of them when I used a Spanish ring. The nice even shape is easier for me to obtain with a smaller herringbone. I've also found that I like to put a 4 bight herringbone on the terminal knots as well. It make for a MUCH nicer end button. Strangely I think adding a small button under a larger saves me a lot of time in shaping and rolling when I want a round button, so I might even come out even.
  23. Great work!!!
  24. Reins would have to be pretty weak to break away, better off with a weaker bridle.
