  1. It is an 8 strand flat braid. First one taught in Bruce grants encyclopedia. I was just coping Knothead. He did it first. I had the decency to use another braid though.
  2. got it figured out. Took quite some time. The strings would end up in the wrong place when I did the wrap. Still not sure if I could do it again but at least when I do it wrong I know I'm just following the wrong string. I wanted it to be a key chain but I don't think it's gonna work. It's roo of course, but I braided it over a strong fishing line so the cross would hold its shape. I'm not sure it's gonna work because the fishing line really wants to twist in ways I don't want it to, so I made this one a Christmas ornament. I tried other knots to hold it in place better but it didn't look very good. The only thing is, how in the world do you hide and secure the strings on that turks head?
  3. All righty, did anyone figure out how to do this. I thought I had it until I turned my cross around and I had like 5 wraps around the top and bottom of the cross and only one or 2 on each of the sides. Can't figure it out, about to have another go. You would think as many turks heads I've made I could figure out how to do this one, it's the same principle, it's just that I can't really figure out when to go over and when to go under and what string I'm following.
  4. Wow thank you very much for sharing!!! Can't wait to see how it works.

I'll check them out. I think my husband my know someone that could do something like this for me, I'll have to ask. I have a button right now I could use one of those on. It's not quite right in one spot and I can't seem to make it right. I almost cut it off and started over but since they are my reins I'll pretend I don't see it and may I can get someone to make me one of those tools. Oh..I friended you on facebook. Can't miss the profile picture...a pony wearing glasses with bright red hair.

    Hobbles

Unfortunately no, the plaiting needs to be tight on its own, the buttons doesn't do it. I'd like to give you a better visual of how I do it but I'm so busy right now I don't know when I could get to it.

You have a book too? Geez I didn't know that. Where can I see it? What's on page 5 picture 9 of your book? LOL...;/.. I was actually talking to Enrique, I just bought his book and one of the tools he lists is a homemade button shaper.....It looks super cool!!!

    Hobbles

I just don't know what you mean by it not coming out matching the end. Are you braiding tight enough? I clamp the 8 plait loop down and then prepare the strings to go to 16 plait. The transition isn't perfect, that's why I have a knot over it in my picture. I don't think I've ever seen a transition that wasn't covered with a knot.

    Hobbles

What you do is start just off center with the eight plait, then fold it in half and then start your 16 plait by combining your now 2 eight plaits. You shouldn't have to undo anything. The eight plait is just the loop. Gosh...I wish I could make this more clear. Seems like i"m no clearer than Grant and have I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what he's saying! I'm enclosing a picture that might help. It's not hobbles but I think the same principle. The loop where the button goes in is actually my starting point and I started in the middle of my 8 strings, when I had the loop the size I wanted I did what fig 3 suggests in the book and started braiding the 16 strand. Another option is to just make it a double 8 strand until you get a better feel for things. They are nice hobbles too.
  11. Thank you knothead. These little clips are a lot of fun to work with.

    Hobbles

I am having a heck of time trying to figure out where you on on those hobbles, can you give me the page number, maybe that will help, I just finished a set of hobbles loosely using his directions but maybe you aren't doing the same set I did.
  13. You are very kind. I didn't want to put to much time into the bracelet because the clip is plastic. Just ordered your book!!! So excited.
  14. I have a clip on bracelet now. thanks knothead.

    Hobble Size

I ended up making it much larger after I read bruce grants book. Here's the final product.
  17. I would add another interweave.
  18. Nice....
  19. I use a kangaroo braided core. I use a nylon core for some things. The size depends on number of strings and the size of them.
  20. Sweet Brian. I really like the clip, compared to other options. I want to try it without the knots on the turn back though, maybe make it longer and put a center knot instead.. I don't know just thinking with my fingers.
  21. my pieces get a design on a regular basis! Thanks a lot.
  22. Brian, can you tell what size buckle that is. I've been looking and looking and looking for the type of magnetic clasp I wanted with no luck, the buckle is the next best thing. It might be strange but I just have this thing about glue...I don't want to use it! There are a few places that sell buckles of different sizes AND different colors, which is a good thing, love color. thanks a lot!
  23. Twin Oaks, I thought it was just me, I see you like slap others on the wrist for their alleged inappropriate posts, perhaps you should reconsider your micromanaging techniques, they only cause more problems.
  24. I can't even imagine how much of you went into that knife! So beautiful. It should be in a museum. I call them all strings unless someone else I'm working with or talking to calls them something else, then I go with it. Thong is a great word. Old and seems more traditional. But I'm always thinking "string" so I call them strings, right or wrong.
  25. That's some kick a** work. I'm going to get the book! Where??? Never mind I'll go search! So which one of your books has all those knots in it.
