  1. Ash, thanks I am sure that would be helpfull This is a shot in the dark but does anyone have a set of these that they are trying to sell. Never hurts to ask
  2. I am glad there is such a unanimous vote on these dvds. From what I had read they were the favorite and It makes it a lot easier to make a choice when the votes are so one sided. as far as price. Well I dont know if I am different than some but to me $400 is well worth the information learned. Is it expensive? yes i think it is. is it to expensive? I would have to say no. I say it is expensive because I can buy a lot of good things for $400. I know I would spend a lot more that this trying to learn probably any other way. I have always been someone who is willing to pay a little extra for the quality of a product and from what I here this is almost an esential. I thank you all for you help and hope to get to know you better as I strive to reach my goals. Thank Again Scott
  3. I have done some research so if my question has already been answered please let me know and I would be happy to go and read. My question is on shaping the saddle set for comfort. What are some of the factors that makes a saddle comfortable? For instance I was riding a saddle yesterday and was only in it for about 30 min and I am defiantly sore and was able to feel it after about 15 min. my butt is sore on the bottom where it transitions to my legs. (Sorry for now having a better way to describe that for you) If that didnt make sense please let me know. so if you were told this by a customer what things would you try to do on their saddle to ensure comfort? I really want to be able to build a great saddle that is comfertable to spend a day in and I am know it will take more than just these posts to undertand this all but I know this will help me along the way. If you would like me to send pictues of the saddle or of anything just let me know. Thank Scott
  4. I have been wanting to build my first saddle for a couple years now. I have been on this forum reading the old posts and trying to learn what I can before asking. I am glad to have found this site their is an amazing amount of info on this forum. From what I have read the Jeremiah Watt set of videos would probably be one of the best videos to invest in first. Now at this point I can change my mind if someone thinks their is a better way to go. I have a friend who built saddles for about 15 years and has stopped. He has all the tools and says I can use his shop to start building saddles. He is also going to be helping me along the way. But I still think the video would be a great resource. I have read about several videos and I think this one is the best. (at least to start with) Is there any other advice before buying this set of videos or maybe another direction I should check out first? I am here to learn. and hopefully one day I will be able to share somethings that I learn along the way. Does anyone know were I can find the Jeremiah Watt Videos? Thanks in Advance Scott Hansen
  5. I have never built a saddle but am hoping to build my first one very soon. I do have a quick question about blocking the skirts. do they just get blocked untill they are even with the tops of the bars. ( I know I need to invest in some books and videos and am planning on doing that )
  6. I think posts like these ones are great ways for people like me (who dont know much about sewing machines) to learn and look into different companies
  7. Art, Ok how much would a Dürkopp Adler 867 set me back. I really dont know much about this stuff yet and apreciate the help. I do know that I like to have the best tools for the job. It usually makes things more enjoyable. Would you say this would be the best medium weight machine?
  8. Well here I am again to pick your brains. Maybe someday in the future I will be familiar enough with this stuff and I will be able to answer some questions. LOL. I know there was a recent topic about the 206 rb and from what I could tell they are a good machine. I would use it for chaps, breast collars head stalls and such. If I understand it will handle this type of work well. I might be able to buy a new one for 900 with a servo moter installed, But I dont even know if this is a good deal. What is one of these machines worth new with the servo motor. the shipping will be $200
  9. what thickness of leather do you use?
  10. is this because the 135 needle system is to small to handle the work? As you can tell I really don't have a clue but I am willing to learn and this is all helping. if fact if anyone has any good places for me to go and do some reading to learn a bit more that would be great. Thanks again and keep the info coming
  11. I am wanting to build a couple head stalls and was wondering what would be the deal thickness of leather to use? and also is their any other reason why people sew 2 layers of thinner leather together instead of a single layer of comparable thickness?
  12. Ok What if I just decided to get a machine to sew my chaps, britchings, breast collars and that sort of stuff. And decided to just stitch my saddles and holsters by had for now. at this point I think I could live with that because as of now I dont see myself doing a whole lot of holsters and saddles for at least a little while. Then what would my options be. ?? Im sorry for my ignorance I relly do appreciate the help though
  13. what is you were going to use it to sew 8 oz tooling leather to a layer of chap leather?

  15. here are the things that I am now building and hoping to be able to find a machine that will help. Chaps both sewing multiple layers on chap leather together and sewing up to 8 oz tooling leather to chap leather. breast collars and britchings (im not sure on the spelling). saddles and probably some headstalls. I am sure their would be other projects but those are a few things I have been working on and or would like to work on.
  16. I am fairly new to leather working and have never owned a sewing machine so I am looking for some help on making a decision. I was wondering if their was a sewing machine that really stands out for doing a good job at sewing a large varietys of leather with little to no adjustment and problems. I would like to be able to sew eeverything from chap leather to saddles and saddle tack. I have heard a lot about the toro 3000 and would this be a good machine to use? I am open to all suggestions. Like everyone I like to save money but I also hate to spend money twice. I would rather save up and have a machine that I will enjoy using and will hold up through the years Thanks Scott
  17. where is a good place to find good used machines. I am the type of person that is willing to wait and save for the machine that I will be happy with. I hate buying things twice.
  18. Well I am great full for the help. I kind of found it hard to believe that I would be able to do what I was wanting to do with one of those machines. I just thought I would ask anyways figuring you would know better.
  19. What about this machine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=360130926360 this is one of the singers I was looking at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=130285303791 here is another I was looking at http://cgi.ebay.com/SINGER-306W-INDUSTRIAL...93%3A1|294%3A50
  20. I have been considering buying a singer 319w for doing some leather sewing on. the heaviest leather I would be sewing with it is sewing a 8 oz tooling leather to a piece of chap leather. The person I was thinking of buying the machine from says that I would be able to take a heavy mens blet (the outdoor type he says) fold it in half and sew it. If it can do that it would work. but I just dont want to get screwed. What do you think?
