  1. I sold my Presa i3 rework I built couple winter ago. interesting to see pictures of them. I went with an e3d hot end, heated bed. found out best is printing on glass with some cheap hair spray. what firmware and software you using?
  2. Good looking spikeep. what kind of forge do you have?
  3. Barry king. they're adjustable. his blade are ready to go out of the box. I have a 1/2" Barrel with a 3/8 blade.
  4. The workbench I use atm I think I'll just use Masonite. I don't have a lot of room. Xmas coming around the corner. stalking stuffers I'll be doing small items like Keychains etc. thanks for the info
  5. That's overkill considering space limited. hence why I mentioned the harbor freight model and I can set it up fairly quickly. But I like cutting with the Dewalt compound saw with a built in light that shines on the blade so you know exactly where it's going to cut ;). I built my own keezer (freezer converted into a kegerator). That was fun to build. Built a frame around the freezer, cut out oak trim and finished it with a cherry stain and sealer. The temp controller was home made. Perlic stainless taps. So I had 4 different beers (home brew).
  6. As with all starting I need a bigger space for cutting, tooling etc. Harbor freight has their bench on sale 119.99. question for you guys that have one and don't have. If you have one how well do you like it? There's a clamp already made into the wood. Also what cutting what surface do you use? The green cutting mats (hobby lobby for instance) can get pricey! notice some use pine to cut on. Would home depot, lowes etc have this? If I can get a nice sturdy table built for 100.00 I'd be doing good. It can be 5' long give or take. Been browsing the forums forever on this and on the Web. Can't seem to get my mind made up quite yet. Thanks, Chris
  7. I was going to run there today (I'm about 2 1/2hrs away but didn't make it). always get leather from there ;). good group of peogle and a huge variety of items to choose from (I only go to tandy for dyes of needed and small and stuff since they are closer). anyways I prefer veg tan as it can be dyed the same somewhat with all the pieces. but question would it be best to go with the herman oak on all or for the the (pockets etc) go with calfskin? there's like a 3$ ft price difference but cutting, skiving, tooling on herman oak (skiving is so much easier than imported) is wayyyy better.
  8. Thanks guys for some reason couldn't reply. would you go with all 2/3oz on the interior? I've been using 4/5 on all interior and exterior but looking to get a sleek look. and halitech that was a question for the cash slot much appreciated.
  9. Was curious other than the price is higher but what would you guys prefer?(a) herman oak 2/3 oz OR (B) Calfskin?
  10. I tried this with an airbrush (sunburst effect). use a lighter stain on the whole piece then after that I went around the edges with more coats but only on the edges. you can use a darker stain to achieve the effect. bunch of info on here. try searching for airbrushing leather.
  11. Thanks for the reply. I should have said one of his blades. I do have an osborn 145 haft but it's a little long for me. I'm thinking of sanding it down since I am a small fella. But if I can find this blade everyone recommends I'm willing to give it a shot. Edit: Found the contact info after searching forever. Thanks again
  12. I know he's out of business but where can I find one of his awl? should I look into a king awl? I have a couple king tools and love them. thanks
  13. Fiebings red dye, edge kote, waxed thread, leather balm with atom wax, and topcoat of acrylic resolene. hand stitched. my exterior is 4/5 herman oak. interior is 2/3 herman oak. https://postimg.org/image/c4i75ovrn/ https://postimg.org/image/z0ug8dkmh/ https://postimg.org/image/agvgaf9x1/
  14. I started using leather balm with atom wax on top of the dye. Then after burnishing the edges I use edge kote. But I like having the the edge match the dye sometimes.
  15. New here but I've lerked around here for oh almost past year or so. Been doing leather off/on. Started with tandy now mainly getting leather from SLC. My dyeing has been so so. Anyways I'm fixing to get an iwata airbrush (hp-bcs). Hobby lobby has a coupon now for 40% off! Already have an old paasche d500 compressors I used when I made small parts and painted them on my light sport aircraft I had. Anyways I've been focusing on wallets/bracelets. Learning how to use the awl is being little difficult but not hard until ya jab yourself (sore thumb!). Also any groups etc up in the NE corner of Oklahoma? Would like to hone in my skills and make some friends.
