  1. Many thanks, are the edges durable & long lasting? Dave
  2. Thanks for all the fast replies. I too have read the indicated post BUT the only stage I didn't do was the parrifin. Time to read over the thread again methinks. @Mijo, do you have any pics of finished leads? Many thanks Dave
  3. Hi Folks, I have a question for the edge slickers out there. I make a lot of dog leads & collars & I am wondering what the best / most durable solution for slicking the edges. My current trusty dog lead has feathery edges. It is made from a strip of bridle butt & so far I've tried; 1. Soaking & slicking 2. Edge kote 3. gum trag 4. Heat!! Anyone got any tips for finishing my leads? Many thanks in advance Dave
  4. I wish we had something like Square here in the UK, everyones running about with android/iphones yet we cant process payments on them. Feels like we are back in the stone age!! Dave
  5. Hi Folks, After spending many hours searching for a design, I threw caution to the wind & made this; Plain & simple - the closure strap becomes the keeper for the stand. Obviously it can be carved & generally improved on, but I thought why not keep it simple!! Dave
  6. I cannot thank you enough. Back up & running now which has save my hands. Many, many thanks Dave
  7. Still stuck on this folks. The sewing machine repair man let me down - never even turned up!!! Tried needle bar height again & also polished bobbin hook but all with no luck at all. The thread is now constantly being 'cut' as it goes through the leather. Anyone help with this?
  8. Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone runs a Seiko TH series machine? I have a problem with mine at the moment - it's stripping the top thread!! This has only started since I tried some proper leather needles, unfortunately they were too small & I ended up reverting back to my original needles, now it's stripping all the time. So far, I have checked needle bar setting, & also noticed that the shuttle hook is catching the thread half way through it if that makes sense (this is causing the stripping). I have adjusted the bobbin carrier right up to the max so that it just passes the needle. Now I'm stumped. Anyone got nay ideas? Dave P.S. Unfortunately I don't have a manual for it.
  9. Very nice work!! I've attempted a few bags in the past but nothing anywhere near that. Have you lined the bag at all? All the best Dave
  10. Apologies for the resurrection. Can anyone tell me what the brading / splicing is called on the handle of the leads in the pictures? I really like the look of it & fancy giving it a go, might start off in scrap before I move onto bridle leather!! Many thanks Dave
  11. Hi, unfortunately they only do small spools. Regards Dave
  12. Hi Folks, I'm looking for a UK supplier of artificial sinew, in large-ish spools. Can anyone help? Cheers Dave
  13. Hi Folks, I kept getting asked for a book of shadows whilst on the craft stall. So, I thought I'd give it a go. Both are A5 size & contain natural journals. 18 hours to complete!! Apologies for the picture quality but I reckon I chose the wrong background. Thanks for looking Dave

  16. Hi Folks, having a clearout, these embellishments have a variety of uses. Good solid nickel & gilt. Price - £1.49 (per picture) plus post. I thought I'd offer them on here before listing elsewhere, this way I know they'll be used. There are 54 images so I'll post the links rather than the images. 17. Hi Folks, I'm selling my skiver, it doesn't get used very much so it has to go (need the space). Full working order, complete with table & converted to single phase. Buyer would have to collect from North Yorkshire but could possibly deliver up to 50 mile. Pics to follow(when its light) Looking for £475. Thanks for looking.
  18. Just a quick update. Posted the details & pics down to Hartley's & now currently awaiting a response. One tip I have found is to remove the leather ring on the clutch/drivewheel on the table then soak it in degreaser to get he oil off of it & he presto, loads more pedal control & more force from the motor. Will keep you posted. Much apprecited for the number, I'll give him a call next week.
  19. Hi, thats the one, one hell of a drive up the 68 to get it!! I've disconnected the clutch arm, well, given it loads of freeplay. Fingers crossed I should be able to get the bits for the stitch adjuster from Walsall, the bloke assures me he has loads of spares. I don't mind paying a bit for the spares, paid next to nowt for the machine so can get it just how I want it. Doesn't look too difficult to fit the lower dogs either. Seriously heavy needle in it, might have to browse for some finer ones. Dave
  20. Forgot to add, also got 4 24x60 bridle butts with it too!!
  21. Thats probably the one. Got the machine & table with motor for a princel sum of .......£97!!!
  22. Hi, mine being the 48 has no stitch adjustment screw or knob, it's got the slot for it though, not sure if the mechanism is there for it though. It's a strange machine (to me) there is no auto feed of the material so I presume this is what determines the stitch length. I'll post a picture when I get round to it, got a bit of a bargain to say the least. Dave
  23. Many thanks for your reply. I have the groove in the needle facing left so all seems well at the moment. I'm just trying to get the stitch length correct, at the moment it varies from almost cutting the leather to 4-5mm stitches!! Also need to get some thread lock, the pivot nut for the lifting of the foot keeps coming loose!! Think I'll have to practice, practice, practice!!
  24. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for the use of it. One hell of a machine, wouldn't like to get my fingers in the way of the needle! Hopefully now I can get stuff finished quicker, 3 days worth of hand sewing gets painful!! Cheers Dave
  25. Thanks Ben, I'll have a look. Dave
