Thank you very much to all of you. I have never seen (or not noticed) a shoe sewn with flat thread. Does it look good? Wouldn't you have any pictures to see how it looks? 0.8 would be enough for boots or better 1mm? I like to know that being flat it won't get the needle in the thread when sewing (with the round sometimes it happens. More than I would like). On the other hand there is a problem: I am from Europe and of the ones you have told me about here I can only find the Ritza. Thank you

Hello So far I have been using hemp yarn for welted and for the sole to make boots and shoes (all handmade). In principle I will continue to use it for the welted as it suits me well (unless you advise me on a thread that is more worthwhile), but I would like to use another more polished and in different colors for the sole. I have no idea what thickness is suitable or the most appropriate material. Could someone help me? Thank you very much

I'm from San Sebastián (Basque country, not Tenerife). Spain

Do not ship to Europe. A pity...

Good site! Thank you very much!

Wow, what a great explanation! It's all very clear to me. Thank you very much Best regards

Thank you very much! You have made me rethink my purchase. Best regards

Thank you very much The problem is that in Europe it is very difficult to find bench grinder with variable speed. Bringing it from the USA is very expensive because of shipping and taxes. I have asked to buy one with fixed speed and convert it to variable speed and the thing is quite complicated and the price goes up a lot. Unfortunately I will have to make do with what I can. Best regards

Hello I will probably buy this bench grinder as it is the only one with variable speed I can find in Europe (shipping + fees from USA are very expensive) https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637184962/o200mm-variable-speed-bench-grinder but I can't find any drum grinder with the shaft diameter. Does anyone know of any? If it was in Europe, the better, but if not there is not much of a problem. Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you! I still have these doubts: Drum with or without slot? If I have not misunderstood if I give more speed to the one with groove it acts as one without groove, is it so? How many RPM for the leather and for the rubber sole? Thank you! Best regards

Thank you! You have done a great job! But I still have the same doubts. Best regards

Hello I need a machine to polish and sand leather. I have seen that the usual is to buy a bench grinder, a sanding drum and a polisher. The problem arises because I need the sander also for sanding rubber soles. I have read some people that having a bench grinder over 3000 RPM is bad for the rubber soles. So I have 3 options and I don't know which one to choose. 1 - Bench grinder with variable speed. https://www.rapidonline.com/sealey-bg150wvs-bench-grinder-150mm-variable-speed-94-3199 2 - Bench grinder of about 2000 RPM (will it go well for leather and rubber sole?). 3 - Bench grinder of approximately 3000 RPM (will it go well for leather and rubber sole?). https://www.rapidonline.com/draper-29620-230v-150mm-heavy-duty-bench-grinder-91-5507 I also have a question regarding the sander. 1 - Sanding drum with groove. I can put any sander I want on it but I don't know if the slot will leave any kind of imprint on the leather or rubber sole. https://www.justwood.com/buy/75mm-sleeveless-drum-sander_34.htm 2 - The regular sander drum (there are less sandpaper grits to choose from). I would really appreciate it if any of you could help me with this. Thank you very much Best regards

Thank you all very much. I have to study everything you have told me as I am very new to machines. Thank you!

I don't quite understand. One of the seams would still be "simple", no? Thanks
-
Thanks, but my doubt is how to do it on the sleeves (to "close" the sleeve). Best regards
-
I will keep it in mind! Thanks

Hello As I say in another post (I ask about machines), I want to start making leather jackets but I have a problem. I don't know how to make a flat felled seam on the sleeves (sewing machine, not handmade). I'm going crazy searching and I can't find anything about it. Can someone help me? Thanks!

Thank you! I will look at the second hand market and Seiko CW. In Spain, Italy, Uk,etc they make shoes by hand (except the upper part). But they are not usually companies but craftsmen. And they are expensive, logically. Best regards
-
Thank you very much for your help. I am going to look very carefully at all the proposals because I have no idea about machines. As for where I reside, in Spain. Yes, shoes can be made perfectly well without a sewing machine. All the upper seams are sewn like any leather item and the sole handwelted. The handwelted (goodyear construction but handmade instead of machine made) is not very difficult to find (at least in Europe), what is not usual is to sew the upper by hand, but it is not complicated at all. Thank you!

Hello I am looking to buy a sewing machine and I am quite confused. I have been sewing briefcases, bags, belts, etc by hand for a few years. I use veg tan leather from 1.3 to 3.5 mm. I have been making shoes for a year now. Now I am also going to start making jackets. I would like to buy a machine with which I can do all these jobs and, if possible, that is not too expensive. However, I am looking for a good finish on the seams. Thank you very much for your help.

Doubts about leather for boots

Thank you very much!! The most important doubt I have is if I can use cowhide veg tan leather (the same type I use for bags and briefcases but with the adequate oz for boots) for the insole and/or midsole and welt (outsole is gonna be of rubber) or if I have to use a different type of veg tan leather. It's driving me crazy ! Thanks!
