An 18th century shoulder strap for carrying a sword or a belt ax in this case it is made to carry both so it is a double frog.

These are horn books, the reason they are called horn books is there is a thin layer of "cow horn" covering the text, this was to protect it from the children's hands from smudging the expensive paper.The frames were made out of different materials some were leather I will try to point them out.
