  1. I guess I hadn't thought about this, but I'm in the process of making guitar straps for 2 friends of mine. Springfield sells kits and I'm planning on buying them from there. I'm interested in the replies to this question. I guess I just assumed the wider part was always in the front and the narrower end was where it adjusts and is in the back.
  2. The Angelus ones that Springfield sells that say in the description something to the effect of "the bottle says dye but it is actually regular leather paint", are actually acrylic paint. I have a couple of colors and they work beautifully. One coat is typically enough (except white) and dries quickly. I've antiqued over them and you can sort of knock the color down that way for an aged look if you want, but you can also completely wipe any antique or stain right off with a damp sponge (right away is best though I've had luck getting it off after it sat for a couple of minutes) for vibrant color. I imagine you're probably supposed to actually paint after staining or dying, but I wanted the antique effect over it so I probably did it backwards.
  3. Hello all! Another newbie here, both to the board and leatherworking in general. Enjoying both very much! I took the "basics" class at a Tandy store 4 weeks ago today and have fallen in love with this art form. My first projects are two guitar straps. I've searched around (here & elsewhere) and haven't found any photos of finished products that used the Eco-Flo Water Stain additives in silver, gold or pearl. I'm wondering if anyone has any photos they could share. I'm wanting to finish one of my straps with the pearl and one with the silver and want to make sure I like the effects before I buy them (they ain't cheap as you know!). One strap will be finished with the All-in-One stain in fudge brown; the other with the Hi-Lite in Smoke Black (both antiqued with the Eco-Flo gel antique in black). I've attached a couple photos of a couple of pieces I've done as practice; the first picture is the fudge brown stain which I'd like to use the pearl over, and the second is the smoke black which I'd like to use the silver over. Any photos, thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!
