@Tugadude I'm having trouble on corners of wallet, I can't get consistent pattern of stitching. I try my best and always making goods with TLC.

@Tugadude It's interesting, I'll be making watch strap soon. I ordered some watch buckle, I want to try to make them. Sometimes I love my stitching, sometimes I think I need to improve it. I'm not so sure if my saddle stitch is right. Hmm

Ok I got your point. It's simply because it's the only resource I have other than 0.8mm thread. Here in my area it's very difficult to find tools and supplies, I rely on the internet but some supplies are so expensive. Oh thank you for the tip, although I bought a roller and still find it difficult, but maybe just needs practice . Thank you again for the advice

Thank you for your comment. Me and edge coat doesn't get along well that's why I didn't painted it but I'll try to do that. What about the stitching you were saying? I only have 4mm pricking iron, uhm what do I need to use for wallets? What do you mean by a bit big?

If I were to make bags, I'd probably make a sort of messenger bag I've been doing small leather stuff like wallets. At first I was focusing on tooling, but a friend ask me to make a wallet then word of mouth and now recently I shipped wallets to US.
-
Where did you order this kind of leather? If you dont mind. That has some character in it. Its really cool. Ive been making leather goods more than a year but still I havent made any bags yet. Lol
-
Yes, there is certain place that sells bunch of leather but thats too far from my area. It's sad but life goes on. Lol Thank you!
-
You buy leather online? Where do you get supply? If you don't mind me asking.
-
Did you make the patterns yourself?

This is nice, I've always wanted to try this.

hello there! I am one woman army in the Philippines . It started when I was looking for a DIY leather watch strap for my Apple Watch ended up watching how to make wallets and stuffs. Since then, everyday I looked up YouTube to watch leathercrafting, and decided to make my own leather goods. It was difficult to find tools from local store, I tried my luck searching online and fortunately found starter tools. Imagine buying and waiting 3 weeks for that. Fast forward to more than a year, here I am growing my small business of small leather goods. Attached are few of my works.Hope you appreciate my works! All made with TLC :D 100% handmade I want to try making bags too! Thank you for pointing that I am referring it as hobby and work. I am not really good at english. That's what I've exoerience using double sided tape, the needle catches some of the gum, but I still sometimes use it. For the adhesive and cement, I am sorry if it confuses you but the bottle says "all purpose contact cement" but it works ok with leather. Although leather adhesive would be better but resources is limited from where I am.
-
But I thank all of the responses for it gave me insights of what other people are using in making their crafts. Maybe I can apply and see what works well for me.
-
I have also tried to use double sided as well. For the zippers which is pain in the ass when gluing, I can only order those online and overseas which is kind of expensive that's why I used all purpose contact adhesive, I think it is slightly strong than the usual leather contact cement.
-
Yes I also prefer glue. So I noticed on the video I watched, because it has holes punched already thats why he did not glue it. So it can be adjusted. Thank you all for taking time to respond
-
Ok I get the point. Does that mean, it is up to the maker whether to put adhesive?
-
I've been in leather industry for more than a year, I still have a lot to learn. I was just wondering, most of the tutorial I have watched, put contact cement before they attach piece 1 to piece 2. Then some video, only put needles on some holes before stitching, I tried to ask the craftsman but just told me that it didn't need to be glued. But why not? Thank you for taking time.

Thank you for the information. I would be very careful on using magnetic clasp from now on.

This is my second time making this king of long wallet. Still not perfect though. Not yet finished on burnishing edges, or should I say try to burnish. I used chrome tanned in this one, pull side leather on the body and coins slot and nappa on the card holder and hinges, because from where I live at, it is difficult to find shop to make my leather thinner. So I had to buy thinner leather. I've been in leather industry for one year or so, just making small leather goods. Still not good enough to level up and make bags and stuff, but it has been always a dream to try it out.
