  1. Hey all. I've been working with these Alphabet conchos that Tandy sells and I'm having a tough time. The little brass screws keep breaking off in the threaded portion of the concho. I've tried using 3 in 1 oil to lubricate the threads but that didn't help. I've gone incredible slowwwwww and worked the screws in and out to try and open up the threads. But that didnt help. The threads on these things are REALLY jacked up. The little brass screws only go about half way at best. I even had the manager at one of our local Tandy stores try and screw one in and IT broke. At $4.5 a piece they should work better. Any advice, other then not using them at all? Thanks.
  2. Yesterday afternoon Steven Siegel sent out an email that read; "It is with great sadness to inform you of the passing of a great person, Ellis Barnes of Gomph-Hackbarth Tools." Apparently Ellis died of heart trouble. He made some excellent tools.
  3. Holy Cow. I ordered the basic set of tools from Seigel and they are great. The impressions are much more defined then the Craftools. Just another case of getting what you pay for....
  4. Can you post some scans for the magazine?
  5. Hey all. I have an extremely basic question. What part of stamping leather is a "Thumbprint" stamp used for? Is it just an extra long pear shader? Thanks.
  6. A friend asked me to make a belt for his mother with her name on the back. When I asked him what size it needed to be all he could tell me is she's a 36. She lives a thousand miles away so I cant measure her and since its a surprise he cant ask her for a belt that I can work from. So how long would you folks make a belt for someone who is a '36'? If I didnt have to try and center her name on the back it wouldn't be that tough. Hopefully the 'surprise' wont be a belt that is too short or her name is halfway around her side. Any info from all of you who have faced this problem before will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  7. The Dremel Tool worked great for grinding it down. Thanks a lot for the advice.
  8. No, but this place has some great reproductions that you might be able to copy... http://www.pasttimesports.biz/football.html
  9. Can you burn it off with a lighter?
  10. Hey folks. I really like the Craftool Backgrounder A104-2, or 66104-22 depending on which name you go by. But I would like one that is even smaller and I cant find anyone that sells a smaller version of that tool. I've read a few threads here about customizing Craftools and I'd like to try it. One problem is I dont have access to a grinder. Is this something that is possible to do without power tools? And if it is what would I need to do it? Or should I take one to some tool & die place and have them do it? Thanks.
  11. I've got the Tandy stitch groover and works okay, but the screw that hold the blade in place is stripping. Do they sell replacement screws?
  12. I was at Al Shelton's shop a few weeks ago and it was really difficult to resist the urge to pick up and look at his old tools. I was hoping that some of his mojo would brush off on me if I touched them.
