Love this forum! whenever i'm stuff on something or need inspiration I can always find it here. I wanted to suggest something to you. I use an Android phone, seems like more & more people are starting to use smart phones. There is an "app" called Tapatalk/Tapatalk Pro that is a mobile forum app. Something forums can integrate into their forum so users can get on using their phones/ipads/etc.. So i have a question. I have a customer that wants their logo stamped into a couple belts & wallets. Can anyone recommend a good maker stamp company that is fairly low cost? Also if any of you have done this in the past would you add the charge of the stamp to their bill? If so would you then let them keep the stamp? I'm trying to wrap my head around how to make the edges look nice on a wallet. veg tan tooled outside, pig skin insides, hand stitched together. I love a nice burnished edge but i'm not sure how to do that with the pig skin in the mix. I've looked around on here for a few hours now and i'm found some great stuff, but not really what i'm trying to do. Any advice would be great! Thanks, Joe

What do you think is the best black dye on the market? I love in California & can't get my hands on Fiebing's Pro Oil Dyes. I'm looking for it to penetrate, not just be a surface dye. I've read all the posts in this thread & i'm still a little confused. I'm currently using Fiebing's dye (black). It rubs off every time. I've tried other bottles of it so it wasn't just a bad batch. I'm using it mainly on belts. Thanks for the help!

I've had the same problem with every bottle of fiebing's black! glad you asked this question. I'll have to try some of these suggestions on my next project. thanks for all the input everyone.

Thanks, I'll try the glass. you're right i don't have a splitter, still build up my tools. I don't use belt blanks though, too brittle & they aren't made by me. Thanks for your help, i'll post a picture after i've finished the belt.

I'm trying to smooth out all the fuzzy flesh on the back of a belt. Cananyone help me to figure this out?? I've tried sanding but it seems toget close but not all the way down. any advice would be super helpful. Thanks, Joe

ok so i didn't read everones post on here so maybe i'm repeating something. in my short time tooling (1.5 years) i've only had to really hit a few stamps hard, bevelers, basket weaves, & pear shaders. i only hit them harder if the first tap-tap doesn't look deep enough. i have almost all newer craft tools & i use their basic rawhide mallet, i'm a carpenter so i'm not bad with a hammer. i have had the fancy shiny coating come off of a few stamps & thats a problem cuase i don't see it till i stamp it in. i think maybe some people need to just use a lighter mallet. i think we all like hand made things & i know that a nice hand made stamp was made with more care. but hand made things cost more. it also bugs me that craft tools aren't made in the US. overall i wish i could afford the nice hand made tools but i don't know how people are breaking stamps.

I wish i read all this an hour ago! oh well. the crack isn't too bad & i made the belt for myself. learn something new everyday. i was told by a friend that i should use Lexol Leather Conditioner. Anyone ever use that with good or bad results in the case of cracking? Thanks, Joe
