  1. Those look like the ones I am going to get to hold me over. If your using them with no issues, hopefully they will be good. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079DLFQWF/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A37TO91FR7L9R8&psc=1
  2. This is the same as I have been doing(the awl). Works out 90% of the time, but i'll still get a few that come out not so straight and seems to take some time. Going to give them 12 dollar ones a try in the meantime.
  3. Thanks. Probably end up getting these, as I am coming up empty handed. I may grab the ones off amazon though in the meantime until these get here. Thanks
  4. Thanks. I looked over there but the sizes I need are currently unavailable. Know of any other places I can check?
  5. I am trying to find a chisel with a round hole. Currently, I am using a 4mm set(2 prong, 4 prong, etc) of chisels that are a diamond shape. I am trying to find a set that makes round holes. With the exception of a cheap cheap set on Amazon I came across, I do not know where to go. I did see a 4 in 1 on the Tandy website but unsure if it is equivalent to the size I am using. Does anyone know where I can go to purchase a set to make the round holes? Thanks
  6. Cant thank you guys enough for taking the time to explain that all. Lots of good information right there. Truly helped a lot.
  7. Thanks for the response. Still going to give the book a read. There is so much info online that its enough to get lost(I think this is what happened, I watched so many videos I got confused. . I am going to give the two needle method a shot soon after this way. I was looking at a representation of the thread going threw material using the one needle method and going from starting point to ending point then back again to start. I dont see how it would pull out if a stitch broke after looking an image but still trying to wrap my head around if it can. I think, I am thinking of clothing that is thin when it breaks and how you can just pull it out. Maybe I am wrong. So if lets say point A is my start and B being the end and if using a "running stitch" and going from A to B then back to A and head back to B just a few holes, is just snipping the thread ok at the end? Seems to me it would be, but then again, I wouldnt be asking if I knew.
  8. Well, I will look into getting the book you recommend. Always looking for more knowledge. So, in the mean time 'till I get the book, any chance you can help me out?
  9. Hi, Have a question about a type of stitch and also its strength. The stitch I want to know about is in this video below. It is the first stitch he does, single needle method. My questions: -1. What is the name of the stitch. He says it gives the look of the 2 needle saddle stitch method. Is it still called a saddle stitch? -2. Also is this stitch strong and if one stitch breaks, say in the middle, will they all pull through? 3-. Is there a different way to start and finish this type of stitch? I cant end it like he does with putting it between the two pieces. I just cant keep it tight to do it. So what I have been doing is when I get to the end on the second pass that takes me to where I started to end the stitch, I then just go a few more holes the opposite way(so 3 times through each hole) just a few holes, cutting it and adding a dab of glue. Appreciate any help and thank you Hand sew leather video
  10. Thank you for the info.Very helpful. Is there any advantage to using the open back ones?
  11. I am thinking of going the chicago screw way. I see folks saying the color(black coating) easily comes off of the rivets. Maybe it was just the ones I was looking at, but if thats the case I will skip those for now I think and use on a different product color. As far as size goes, does the following seem like the correct size? Material thickness: .095-.105. It will be Doubled over, so total thickness is: .19-.21 Chicago screws I found are: 1/4" (1/4 male, 1/4 female) and barrel diameter of 3/16. Rivet if I go that way, Double cap rivet length, 9mm(.35") post 3mm(.12"). I may get both and see how each goes for the learning aspect anyways. Thanks tons for the help.
  12. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help. There's a lot of great tips here. Unfortunately, sewing is not an option for me at this time. One thing I didnt mention, besides having a clean look, is that I need them to be black in color. I did look at some of the chicago screws as mentioned. I like the look of the, but this may as never using them, do they loosen up ever? I will look more into those and also some of the double cap rivets. Thanks for all the help so far. You all enjoy your holiday.
  13. First post here on the forum. New member and looking forward to learning more about this craft. Apologizes if I am posting in wrong section, I was unsure where to post this question. I am looking to find out what the best type of rivet is to use. They have to be both strong and look nice. They will be being used on dog leashes and harnesses, so need to not fail with pulling force. Originally I was going to go with a double cap rivet, but did some reading and learned they are not that strong(if I understood correctly).I dont have much knowledge as far as rivets go when it comes to their strength. Can anyone suggest a rivet type that would suit my needs? I attached a photo of what I am after. I was hoping to get this on both sides, but the back side can appear different providing it has a clean look. Thanks in advance for any help and or suggestions.
