Hi Rayban I have a 29k71 almost identical machine, I can assure you it will not sew 1/2 leather I have tried! ressult is continuous missed stiches , broken thread, plus broken needles. Ihave managed to sew 3/8 but it struggles, I have purchased a Singer 45k type machine it sews 1/2 inch of leather with ease, in Australia you can purchase one for less than half the price of it's new equivelent, although over hear they are becoming harder to find it good condition. china

Thanks for that, that was my other option to cut back the plate, as you say it dosen't look that complicated to make up a cover for the shuttle. china

Hi again looks likes nobody recognises it, one other question after reading some other posts, does any one know if different needle plates are available for 45k's or the clones china

Hi all, I am new here, and compared to most new to leather work especially machine sewing, I have a 45k clone and would like to know if any one can identify it I was told it was neccki, and I've been told it is a singer made in Italy. None of this seems acurate, the only marking on the machine is a s/n 55066, it is quite well made and sews 1/2' leather like butter, I have some pics I'm just not sure how to post them on this forum. if someone can enlighten me I will send them do I just send them as attachments. china
