Also make sure your needle is in correctly. It might be turned a little or not seated to the top. good luck

It just depends on what you want to do with this when it is finished. Are you going to ride it? Display? etc... But to put it in useable condition it needs stirrup leathers, Most likely fleeced with new strings, The quilted seat looks pretty good. It is a rough out so it is going to be dark in color for the most part, (just goes with age and use). I would have to guess on shipping, but about 75-100 to ship to me. Stirrup leathers, fleeeced with strings, clean and oil, check out the rest of saddle, ship back to you would be approximately, $550-600. let me know if you want me to do this. fred 775-232-4809.

You will find that your work is not monetarily appreciated by your customers like you think it should. Dont worry about it. Price it fairly, they will either pay you for it or wont be back. You could also implement a deposit on all orders. I do and it takes the guess work and hard feelings out of it. Custom work is custom work, you do it because they want it made. Also friends and family will never want to pay what it is worth for your time and effort. just my opinion

I have a six inch crank splitter, it is a Landis I think. I find I really need to keep the blade sharp, sharp, sharp. I finally got tired of trying to hand sharpen it and took it to a company that sharpens planer blades. That was the best thing I did. Since doing that it works perfectly.

I am pretty new to this board, but I keep my dry rawhide rolled pretty tight. Then when I need a piece I use a bandsaw to saw off a piece, then soak to desired consistency.
