  4. No one knows of any patterns for this?
  5. Hey Everyone, I am looking for a pattern for a ammunition holder that fits on the stock of a rifle. I am not sure what caliber yet. Has anyone seen something like this? Any help would be most appreciated. I'm new to the leather working thing but I love this stuff. Thanks again everyone. John.
  6. you all were right, i woke up this morning and looked at the strap I had put the neatsfoot oil on and sure enough the color had lightened very slightly and was very even through out the leather. It looks really good, I sure am relieved. I was not too sure about it at first. Thanks very much for everyones feedback, i appreciate it. It's nice to have a place I can go to get help with leatherworking, especially since I have never done this before. Thanks again. John.
  7. Yeah, I got my leather at the Tandy store and it is veg-tanned leather.
  8. Hey Everybody, Well I'm off on my very first project ever. I decided I am going to tackle making a saddlebag. I have all the pieces cut out and edged and burnished, I made the gussets, got everything punched out and now I am to the point of applying neatsfoot oil to everything....... Is it supposed to turn my leather dark? I also have darker spots and lighter spots on the one strap I tried to apply this neatsfoot oil to. I was told to just apply a thin coat and thats what I did. Maybe the dark and light spots will even out as it dries... I need you guys input to see if this is normal and if my leather is supposed to be turned a much darker color. Thanks alot for you guys help. I hope this project turns out ok. John.

    New guy

Hi Kate, Thanks you for the warm welcome, I will just go for it and learn from my mistakes and use the knowledge here to help me along. It's a little overwhelming. I think i will be fine though, like you said go with what you are passionate about. This is going to be great. Thanks so much Kate and to everyone for your support. John.

    New guy

Hi everyone, My name is John and I have been interested in getting into leather working for a long time, I figure now is as good a time as any. I am very interested in making larger projects like bags, and holsters, etc. and making them look professional. It's pretty ambitious considering I have never done any leather working. I am really starting from ground zero, so any and all input about the best way to get started would be really appreciated. What kind of projects do people usually start out with? I am tempted to jump right into trying to make a bag or something but I am sure thats much too advanced for me at this very early point in the game. I don't know what kind of tools i would need or how to use them or anything.. I would like to say I am very happy to be here and hope to soak up as much knowledge as possible from ya'll. I work for the railroad but have been temporarily laid off or furloughed as the railroad calls it. It boils down to months with no job. I don't know, maybe I am hoping to possibly make this into something I could possibly make a little income from......eventually. Anyway, I would just like to say hello to everyone and I welcome all knowledge, opinions and instruction directed my way. Your new friend, John.
