What Other Ways Are There To Braid A Lead?
ruthless replied to ruthless's topic in How Do I Do That?
My handy husband figured it out :D -
I'm also looking for a supplier of modern, good quality, watch faces. Any suggestions?

Not that I have any issue with Tandy. I'm just wondering if there are any other designs out there!

What Other Ways Are There To Braid A Lead?

I just googled those and they're made with several strands, yeah? We only use bridle leather, it wouldn't work, would it? -

I don't think any of them are a magic /secret braid, are they??? -
We're going to be selling three different widths of dog lead and I'd like them all to have a different style of braiding. So far we have these two, are there any other ways? Strength is really important. I found these online, but I can't find any other photos and I can't figure out how they're done. Does anyone know? Is it strong?

How To I Remove The "coating" From A Solid Brass Buckle

Paint stripper did the trick, thanks -
How To I Remove The "coating" From A Solid Brass Buckle
ruthless posted a topic in How Do I Do That?
The 1.5" buckles we're using on our collars have a coating on them which is preventing them from oxidising. All the other bits are aging nicely, but the buckle stands out because it stays looking new and shiny. We have a liquid for dipping things in to oxidise them, but the buckle doesn't react. It seems to be coated with something. Sanding it off is an option, but I'd rather not have to! Would paint stripper work? Or something else? I don't have a picture of the buckle handy, but it's the 718 SB 1.5" on p82 of the Weaver catalog. Thanks -
Yeah, it's pretty firm. I can send you a small sample if you want? Although Birdsalls probably would too. I'm still not 100% clear on the skiving though. If I buy a side of leather that's 3mm thick is it stronger than skiving a 6mm piece down to 3mm?

The Neverending Quest To Find The Perfect Buckle!
ruthless replied to ruthless's topic in Hardware and Accessories
Thanks Tony, it's not the kind I'm looking for though. The outside bars [for want of a better word] are thicker than the one I'm looking for. I think the one on the left is your one. I want the one on the right. Birdsalls used to stock it but they don't anymore. -
Yeah, Wickett and Craig sides from Birdsalls.

I buy 6mm sides of bridle leather. I'd like some 3mm leather for certain pieces. If I skive my thick stuff will it be weaker than a hide that's 3mm thick to begin with? Also, how come some sides are thicker than others?

Really? I looked in their catalogue and couldn't see any the same. How much are they? If it's not too much trouble, could you take a photo of it? From the side and from above? Phone pics are fine, I just want to see the shape and the depth of the bar. -
I'm looking for these buckles ... http://www.toowoombasaddlery.com.au/detail.php?PID=156&grp=21 http://www.toowoombasaddlery.com.au/detail.php?PID=152&grp=21 Clearly I've found them, but they're ridiculously expensive compared to Weaver's prices, so I'm wondering if anyone knows anywhere else that sells them. OTB and Weaver don't have them. They have similar, but I want these exact ones cause I'm fussy!

That'd be great, thanks

I've never seen one of those used on a heavy duty dog leash, have you? Any links?

I plan to have my website up in the next 6 weeks and I'll be selling my products online. I only ever intended on having it as a hobby business as my other job pays better than this, but my husband is getting really into the leathermaking. If it's to support him full-time he'll probably need to sell big orders to pet shops. If we're selling wholesale, is there a standard discount that buyers will expect on the internet price? Are there any other considerations?

His snaps and the ones on the Leerburg website look the same as the ones I ordered [pic #3] http://leerburg.com/leatherleash.htm Thanks The stainless steel one in the first photo has come open a few times. One of my dogs [Chopper, 19kg Staffy mix] wears a prong collar on walks and sometimes he'll shake his head to try and move it lower on his neck and I find myself with the lead in my hand and him walking offlead beside me unaware of his freedom!! Luckily, it's never happened in a situation where I needed him attached to a lead, it's still a concern though. The snaps in pic #3 are from Ohio Travel Bag. I'm trying to get stainless steel ones from Weaver, but getting set up as a customer has taken weeks and I still don't have a pricelist so I need to wait for that to arrive from the US before I can order. Sigh.

By #3 do you mean the third picture?? I'll be using English bridle leather. Do you mean, the square eye in the third picture looks too sharp and small??
