I just found this: http://www.k9force.n...h_breakage.html Now my question is, are the rounded eye snaps stronger than the square eye snaps? [Excuse my obsession with strength, it's going to be my main marketing angle though so I have to get it right!!]
-
I want to use the strongest snaps available on the leashes I make. I've ordered solid brass ones from Ohio Travel Bag company. They arrived yesterday and they have a small hole in the centre shaft [photo 3]. The stainless steel snap on a lead I bought from a friend of a friend has no hole [photo 1]. The small brass on a collar I got from Leerburg has no hole in it either [photo 2]. I remember hearing at a dog training I went to that the hole in the centre makes it weak and can break under pressure. Does that only apply to die cast snaps? Are there stronger solid brass snaps available? Excuse the crappy phone pics!!

I'm looking for a supplier of brass martingale chains for dog collars similar to these ones: http://www.a1leash.com/Clearance.html Except longer thicker chain and with a D-ring. Does anyone know where I'd be able to source them?

Arrggghhhh, the search continues!!! Tophand want my first order to be a minimum of AUD$200. I only need 20 snaps!! Besides that, their 1" is out of stock anyway. Why is this so hard? It's soooo frustrating!
-
Thanks mate. I have their website open. I thought I called them already, maybe not. Do they sell in small quantities? Swivel is fine, as long as they're SS and square eye

If I want to taper a collar from 2" to 1.5", for example, is there a tool I can use to do it neatly?
-
Why is it so hard to order from Weaver?!! I've sent them numerous emails and all my business details and I still haven't been able to order what I need. It's shitting me to tears!!! It's like they don't want my money! Thanks for your link Trevor, but I'm looking to get both sizes from the one source and they only have the 1" in SS.

I'd like to get my logo made into a stamp to brand my products. My local leather shop said they could have the stamp made for me but it's look better if I dropped my pieces into them in bulk and they heat stamped them. My husband said I can just get a stamp made and heat it up and heat stamp them myself at home. [Does that make sense?] Is that true? Is there anywhere online where I can order custom stamps?

If the two pieces of leather I'm screwing together are a total of 8-10mm deep, what length chicago screw do I need? What length rivet would I need? Also, if I'm rivetting 5-8mm together, what length rivet should I get?
-
Thanks, I hadn't seen that one. I prefer 5026, but I'll get them to send me a couple of 017's too anyway. Thanks
-
Thanks, they have the 3/4" but not the 1". Any other ideas? Cheers

I'm looking for SS snaps the same as these brass ones from Ohio Bag Company. Does anyone know where I could find some? P1930 here and P1929 here

Can anyone help me choose the right machine?

That's who I've been dealing with. He's great, really helpful, just not in Sydney! -
Can anyone help me choose the right machine?

Some great advice here, thanks Part of the problem is I don't know if there's a store in Sydney where I can walk in and look at different machines and talk to someone in the know. Birdsalls only sell the Tipman Boss. The guy I've been in contact with is in Queensland, which is making it really hard for me to make my mind up. He's being very patient and helpful! I can get the more expensive one if you all reckon it's the right one for the job. Trying it out first would be a BIG plus though. -
I'd like a machine that will sew two pieces of leather with chunky stitching. Like this [which was hand saddlestitched] I'd also like to be able to sew handbags someday. I've been in contact with someone in Australia who sells Cowboy machines and he recommended a 7441AE, but it's very expensive. He said my budget option is a Master 105. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Where exactly did I say I was going to copy the design and incorporate it into my own?? Checking out the quality and finish is very different to copying. Do you think there's something sneaky and underhand about checking out the competition? Shorty after I placed the order with this company I contacted them and asked could I come to the US and learn from them and then return to Oz and open a franchise of their business. When the owner said they were interested I told them about the order I'd placed and how it was to see the quality and finish and hardware used. I was completely upfront with them. Yes, I agree that my mission was accomplished, but does that make it ok to send out crappy goods? Just because I bought them for research purposes, does that mean I'm not entitled to a quality product? I asked should I return them, not should I demand a refund. It was all the other posters that said to get my money back. Sure, getting a refund would've been nice, but I never really expected it to happen, so having another batch sent to me is a satisfactory outcome.

So, even if the quality was better, do you think these prices are too high? 2 x collars @ US$100 each 2 x leashes @ US$40 each 1 x leash @ US$30 I don't
-
I've made a complaint and they told me to keep this lot and they'll send me a new batch for free. They actually tried to justify a lot of the issues as being the nature of handmade goods. They didn't dispute that the leather was bad quality though, so hopefully the new stuff will be significantly better.

I bought some collars and leads from the US for research purposes. I did it when the exchange rate was at it's worst, so two collars and three leads cost me AUD$540 [uS$346]. My intention was never to use them, just to check out the quality and the hardware and then sell them on. It took 6-8 weeks for the order to be dispatched. I put my plans on hold until I saw them, but when they arrived last week I was utterly disappointed. I think the quality and finish is really poor and I wonder am I being a bit picky because I'm a perfectionist. I wouldn't dream of sending anything out like this. Let me know what you think and if you notice any other defects that I haven't addressed? [i've blurred out the company's stamp as I don't want to name names.] The leather around nearly every rivet has been marked by the setter The rivets aren't properly centred and neither are the top panels The corners aren't cut evenly The leather is shit quality They didn't even put their own stamp on squarely

My husband just asked the same thing. He's a cabinet maker and he said that part of the blade isn't sharp.
-
Thanks, I'd never heard of them.

But it has to be matching! One collar = all stainless steel or all solid brass
-
That easy?! It looks fancy!
