A little tidbit of info on the name Portmanteau, as you probably already know it's a french word.....really a combonation of two french words.
Porte wich means "to carry" and manteau wich means "coat".......so litteral translation is "coat carrier"

How long have you been doing leatherwork and where did you learn your technics........or are you just a natural born leather genius LOL.
Extremely impressive work.

I just went to DeviantArt and your work is just simply amazing.
I really loved your Archangel helmet..... it's just really stunning.
Pics of different stages of fabrication would be cool!

I just got a...... "Oh! those are awsome, I want a pair of those" from somebody looking over my shoulder.
And I concure, very nice.
A tutorial on constructing those would be very kind, though I know it would be very time consuming.
I will just put it out there as a wish list.
Thanks for showing, great work.

Yes is my project and design, and many details are hand sewn, all the best material we can find in Italy and the Carving was a long meditated design. Hawk-man attack......half fantasy and half greek (sparta's king, Leonidas)..
look at this other "historic bag" is like a LORICA SEGMENTATA, the armor of legendary centurions of Rome
I like it , using centurion armor patern to make a bag...original idea.....it looks great.
Very nice job.

Thanks for the info much apreciated.....my son just pickep this little beauty over the winter and I intend on pitching him the idea of a bib for it, giving me a whole new project and good method to protect it.
Thanks again for the help.
Hey Razz,
The finish after dying is: neatsfoot oil, super sheen, Pecard Leather Lotion & Pecard Weatherproof Motorcycle Dressing.
The Pecard products are excellent for weatherproofing and relatively inexpensive.
I had a client report back that he spilled gasoline on his bib during a fueling mishap and the finish resisted the gas well enough that he simply had to blot it dry and reapply the dressing. (Side note - the felt backing also absorbed some of the gas so I had him take the bib off to air dry the felt liner then had him use a solution of 50/50 water & vinegar to kill the gas smell - worked like a charm). Pecard makes a neutral and a black colored dressing. For my all black bibs I use the black colored dressing to help deepen the color and I use the neutral on everything that isn't black.
