Hello, I need some advice on a saddle I am building. This is a first for me for many reasons. Two of those are, this is the first saddle I have built on a wood tree and this is the first in skirt rigging I have done. Which thank you to all who have provide input on these topics already on this forum. This saddle is for my husband, so I built it to the point where we could have him ride it, to try out the ground seat, so it is unfinished in these pictures. The stirrup leathers/fenders are not the ones that will go with this saddle when finished. The question I mainly have is, if there is any advice on how to fix or what to do about the in skirt rigging plate and where it rubs the riders leg? The skirts stick out and fallow the line of the saddle tree, hopefully you can see in the pictures. When my husband rode the saddle and it was cinched down on the horse it still really rubbed his leg. Should we wet the rigging and try to pull it down? Would pulling them in help or did I just get the rigging plate in a bad spot, or my leather too thick at the spot of the rigging plate? Once the seat is in, will that change how his leg sits over the rigging plate? Any other comments would be greatly appreciated as this is only the 4th saddle I have built and like I said there are a lot of firsts for me on this one. Thank you, Anna

Laport Wade, Ralide Pony, And The Art Of Saddle Making Dvd
alaskasaddlery posted a topic in Old/Sold
So I bit off way more than I can chew. I thought I would have a good old time this summer and make a couple saddles for myself. Evetually, I want to make them and sell them, but that is way in the future. I don't have time to do this, and these two trees and this DVD are just sitting in my house. Would someone like a new 14.5" laporte wade? Here are the specs: Laporte Wade 14.5" seat built in cable rigging 4" cantle semi QH bars, 23" long ( I think) That's all I know off the top of my head. If you want more measurements let me know. Pony Tree Seat: 11 1/2" Swell: Slick Fork Cantle: 2 1/2" Bars: 15 1/4" Pony Gullet: 4 1/2" wide x 5 1/4" high Horn: 2" cap Loop-Lok 2 1/2" high Weight: 3lbs. 14oz. from the website. New in box. And the DVD is The Art of Saddle Making by Jerimiah Watt. I purchased it for $153 used but in excellent condition. I would love to sell the whole set for $450 not including shipping, but I am negotiable on the price.- 1 reply

I made a DVD a few years ago to help my students as I train them. I am now planning to do a new DVD in the winter and post it to Youtube in sections covering the many stages involved in making a English style saddle. I am guessing this will involve around 30 to 40 videos. The video I did a few years ago shows around 30 percent of the saddle getting made and is around 2 hours long. This link is to the webbing up of a English style tree. I know the quality is not great as it was taken from video to DVD then recorded on my phone. However I thought I would still upload it to find out if there will be a interest in this type of video before I embark on the new DVD. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiBmkHQbPx0

This is the second stage to building the tree in a English style saddle. As I said I did this years ago and the quality is not great. I hope to redo some videos in the winter. Hope this is of some use to people doing new trees in saddles or embarking on making one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=glaioeu308

I'm sure this has been posted before, but where might be the best place to get tacks for making saddles? Can I get these things at Home Depot, or do I need to buy them online? I've been looking at shoe tacks, but the shipping is ridiculous in most cases, and I don't want to get the wrong thing. I don't have extra money to waste.

Our Canadian treeless saddle making business has been around since 1993. With unique designs and proven design performance, our saddles have a dedicated following of users. The market has not been maximized and our advertising has been mostly through our dealer network and customer reviews. Huge potential to increase profits and sales within this special saddle market. Ideally this business would be taken over by an owner with existing shop workers and machinery within North America. Sales numbers are only limited by manufacturing output. Current owner is willing to interface with purchaser to ease transition and to ensure manufacturing processes. Price for business is negotiable, depending on equipment desired, owner involvement and scope of product control desired. Please contact Dana sensationride@shaw.ca for further details. see the website www.nickerssaddlery.com
