Hi All, Here's a pancake holster I just finished. Used a 'Gator Embossed' Veg Tan leather from Tandy. It's pretty heavy, probably 7-8 oz.? The lighter colored holster is basically a FAIL (unless I can find a pistol to fit it). I lined the leather with a 3 oz. pigskin, which made the molding very difficult and took up enough inside space that it turned out too small for the pistol I wanted to use it with. After the photo, I removed the dyed grooves and just burnished them. Looks a lot better, but still doesn't fit any pistol I have. Bill

I'm starting to get the hang of this holster thing down, though I definitely have a lot to learn. For instance, those darn wrinkles! Ugh! Anyway, here is my fourth holster. Making holsters was the sole reason I started to learn leather working. I'm totally hooked. This is the first piece I've actually sold. I don't count the one I did for my dad. I consider that family helping family. He asked me how much I would need to get started and make him a holster. Naively, I said $150. Ha! I had no idea. I had a few tools, but nowhere near what I needed to complete the holster I had in mind for him. This was a custom job for a guy I work with on occasion. He wanted something special for his Colt Delta Elite 10mm. This holster is 6-7oz. lined/laminated with 4-5oz. Hand stitched with #207 bonded nylon. Thumb break stiffener is buried between the two layers. The snap is covered by a skived down piece of leather, stitched into the strap. I found a picture of a buffalo skull online, and sketched up my template based on that. I hand carved the letters, didn't have small alphabet stamps and didn't like the fonts available. The filigree knife really came in handy on this one. Dyed with Fiebing's Pro Dye, gently painted around the edges of the skull and letters. Well, as usual, let me have it. The criticism offered by everyone on this site has vastly improved my work, and I welcome every bit. Thanks again for everyone's help and for all of your comments. If you are curious, here is a link to the one for my dad.

Hi, I recently saw this video: Its about how to design your own pancake style holster. Very informative and exactly what you need if you are going to design one yourself. Enjoy !!!

Had a request for a holster for a pancake style holster for a 2 1/2" 686. The guy is always climbing in and out of farm equipment so I was concerned about banging up the muzzle of the gun so I left it just a bit long on the muzzle end. Overall I'm very happy with this one, it's probably my first project with no real stitching issues and I spent a lot of time on the burnishing. The cant of the gun is just sbout perfect and the thumb break is just right. Here's some pictures:

I would really appreciate feedback on the holster patterns I have attached. They are for a Bersa Thunder 380. Many years ago I had a leather business in Montana and made a lot of custom "cowboy" six shooter hogleg holsters. I never had reason to make a holster for an automatic weapon - or even a revolver - because out there it was open carry and well, it was the west. Also, the holsters were custom fit to each customer's gun. I can't even tell you what type of guns they were because my patterns just have the customer name on them. Now, after years of working a regular job to raise my family, I am getting back to doing leatherwork. I started with jewelry and bracelets, added messenger bags, purses and knife sheaths. Recently, a friend asked me to make a holster for his new gun. He agreed to be my guinea pig since it had been so long since I had made a holster and I had never made a concealed carry holster for an automatic weapon. So, here are the patterns I have drawn up. He is on the hefty side and thinks he would prefer no cant. I would also appreciate thoughts on that. Finally, any thoughts on the sweat shield/hammer strap would be appreciated.
